I've bought both my shotgun and rifle at pawn shops.

Heck yes. I prefer it. Especially when I'm out of town and have some time to kill. Target, Walmart, Penny's, or whoever will have the exact same crap anywhere you go. But, what you find in one Goodwill will be different from the one two miles away.

I bought a nice Madsen rifle that had been made for the Columbian government at a pawn shop.

I furnished my apartment from a second hand store. It's good quality furniture at a good price, not the crud you get at certain discount "new" furniture stores who have very annoying ads, and will remain nameless. That furniture is meant for college students to throw in the dumpster once they graduate, if it lasts that long.

ummm..that woman has not shopped at a second hand store since she had a grandchild??? Seems like it should be that other way around, I never pay full price for kids stuff. For one kids destroy clothes and shoes quickly , and they grow outta stuff quickly. I buy most of my kids clothes at the Social Service League, they are always cute and I don't have to worry about them gettting ruined. Buying second hand is a good way to save money and is also good for the environment.

I think Ann lost her sunglasses. She needs to go find a pair at the second hand store. Although, she probably already has two hands.

nope. Sometimes the used stuff is priced higher than what the item sold for new.

I only shop at Yellow House. They have the lowest prices in town for some reason.

I have found a couple of slightly used but still in good condition girlfriends at pawnshops before.

Only at the Yellow House. I've purchased many video games there as well as my washer, dryer, refrigerator, and chest freezer. Love the people there and especially the owners. Wouldn't shop second-hand anywhere else!! Hey Original Bob.. try being a little more original and stop trying to instigate an argument.

I don't shop at pawn shops but I absolutely love Goodwill. You can find some really good stuff there if you go often enough. And like "wifemotherslave," I go there to get kids clothes. The quality of clothes at Goodwill is better than at Wal-Mart or Target most of the time and is cheap enough that when the kids come home with the knees ripped out of their jeans (again) it doesn't even bother me. It use to drive me nuts because I would spend 10 to 20 dollars, give or take, on a pair of jeans and sure enough, two days later, there would be a hole in the jeans. Now, jeans are only 2 to 6 bucks so it isn't that much of a big deal. The kids don't mind either because no one knows that they got their clothes from Goodwill and the usually get more clothes than if they went to a box store and paid higher prices. I've even bought clothes from work there so for me, it is a win-win situation.

"certain discount 'new' furniture stores who have very annoying ads"

I think that describes every discount furniture store in the nation.

As to the question: yes. Secondhand stores are fantastic.

Agree totally with none2. And I'm kinda done with our Goodwill cause they seem to jack the prices way up. Last time I was there I found a pair of workout pants priced at $9.99. Probably less than they cost new, but too much.

Not a lot of great second hand stores in Lawrence or antique stores either. Antique stores do indulge in second hand items.

The answer is absolutely yes.

Sometimes I just like to wander around to see what's going on. Most all house warming gifts, wedding gifts and some christmas gifts are purchased from second hand/antique shops.... recycle recycle recycle. And a good source for USA made products.

Pawn Shops = Guitars

That's where the gems are.

Dear LJ World, It appears to be late winter or early spring when this question was asked. (It's very obvious.) Ann Anderson is standing where the garden center is currently located and the tree's are bare. Oh, and the grass is brown. While I'm at it..Behind Gerry Meyer(about 40 ft.) you should see a large flower selection. Does anybody agree?
