Well, I got paid, but I made it plain I would only serve one term --I avoided much of the public criticism that I probably would have gotten during a second term. I did get sued, but was indemnified by the City and we won, though the "accuser" declared bankruptcy, so the City's insurance got stuck with the bill. A very interesting chapter in my life--nice to be out of it!

Absolutely. I do some pro bo stuff for Kansas Legal Services in Topeka. However, not usually in the summer months, cause the kids are out of school, so I spend my spare time with them.

I don't know wren, once your in they never let you really leave. So my wife can say, "another meeting to open yourself up to public criticism and you don't get paid?"

Most of my volunteering involves cooking--like for Hospice or the needs of the elderly, etc. I had an active role in City government in our community for four years and made a vow not to attend any more meetings when that wound up, so I help out any ways that I can, as long as NO meetings are involved. I am a true believer in volunteering, provided I feel that it is a legitimate help to someone and not just to get credit for something without doing much of anything.
