Schumer did, indeed, cause a run on Indy-Mac. The only question is, why? What did he have to gain from that?

Max1 your ignorance is only outdone by that of your Half-Breed hope in the white house! Come to South Park on Sunday and you will see what a protest is all about. You may even learn something. Heck, they've been able to teach chimpanzees to understand basics, maybe you too!

"Actually, beatrice, it was Obama's own who called him the messiah" -oldvetYou old Armageddonites are a hoot! Farrakhan didn't say Obama is the Messiah, and how is the ranting of a religious leader like Farrakhan any different than the ranting of Bush's holy warrior, General Boykin?"Brothers and sisters," Farrakhan said, "Barack Obama to me, is a herald of the Messiah. Barack Obama is like the trumpet that alerts you something new, something better is on the way."http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/may/20/usa.iraq2The religious warrior of Abu Ghraib"George Bush was not elected by a majority of the voters in the US. He was appointed by God." -General BoykinSaving General Boykin seemed like a strange sideshow last October. After it was revealed that the deputy undersecretary of defence for intelligence had been regularly appearing at evangelical revivals preaching that the US was in a holy war as a "Christian nation" battling "Satan", the furore was quickly calmed. . . Boykin was not removed or transferred. At that moment, he was at the heart of a secret operation to "Gitmoize" the Abu Ghraib prison.

"Max1 left out the guts of Limbaugh's remark about his desire for Obama's success" -GodotFrom the transcript:HANNITY: So then the question becomes: Do you want him to succeed? RUSH: . . I am hearing many Republicans say that very thing. "Well, we want him to succeed," and prominent Republicans! "Yes, we want him to succeed." They have laid down. They have totally. They're drinking the Kool-Aid, too. . . if he's going to do The New New Deal all over, which we will call here The Raw Deal -- why would I want him to succeed? . . If he gets nationalized health care . . . Why would I want that to succeed? . . . So I shamelessly say, "No! I want him to fail." If his agenda is a far-left collectivism -- some people say socialism -- as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed? Limbaugh, who was clearly hopped up on hillbilly heroin at the time, said the whole economic meltdown was created by liberal conspirators for the purpose of getting Obama elected and to make the US a socialist nation. If his paranoid schizophrenia wasn't the result of his being hopped up, it was probably the effects of his withdrawal.December 22, 2008http://globalgrind.com/source/www.huffingtonpost.com/271934/rush-limbaughs-conspiracy-theory-democrats-started-economic-crisis-to-help-elect-obama/Back to this October surprise -- I'm just wondering if a lot of this was by design to create economic panic. blah blah blah, they wanted to create economic crisis, . . so [Sen.] Chuck Schumer caused a run -- a $1.3 billion run on IndyMac . . . and I just wonder if what was a planned attempt to scare people economically . . . has now spun so far out of control, its gone so far beyond what the intention was - just to win an election -- that nobody knows what to do about it now.

We're witnessing racism all this week that led up to the inauguration. "If he [Obama] gets nationalized health care, I mean, it's over, Sean. We're never going to roll that back. That's the end of America as we have known it" -LimbaughIf you're a well paid gasbag and mascot for the Republican party, like Limbaugh, I don't suppose you would see that our medical system is failing. If you can keep our doctors distracted, sorting through piles of insurance papers, then it is probably easier for Limbaugh to scam the system to acquire large quantities of hillbilly heroin illegally. Changing that would spell "the end of America as we have known it".Of course Limbaugh can always acquire large jugs of Viagra when he is in the Dominican Republic "romancing" sex-slaves. "Fact - he is NOT the first African-American president. He is the first “Half Kenyan American” President . . . At least it will only be for four years, and then we will have the first female president - Sarah Palin!!" -GAPalin? That explains the Kenyan not African part."Thanks max1 - You just validated the wacko lib part of my statement." -GAYes, those damned liberals didn't go along with that good ole Plessy statute.Brown v. Board of Education player: Walter HuxmanWalter Huxman was born in Reno County, Kansas on February 16, 1887. In 1936 he ran for governor of Kansas and won by around 22,000 votes. He was known as a strong Democrat, often using his speeches to campaign for President Franklin D.Roosevelt. Huxman used his power as governor to allow black student admittance to the University of Kansas School of Medicine. The school was trying to deny acceptance of a student because he was black. This was Huxman’s first dealings with these issues.

Max1 left out the guts of Limbaugh's remark about his desire for Obama's success: From the transcript:"So then the question becomes: Do you want him to succeed? RUSH: Now, this... (turns to camera) I am so glad that he asked me that question. (turns back to Hannity) I am so glad that you asked me this question. HANNITY: I'm glad to. (chuckles) RUSH: I'll tell you why. I am hearing many Republicans say that very thing. "Well, we want him to succeed," and prominent Republicans! "Yes, we want him to succeed." They have laid down. They have totally. They're drinking the Kool-Aid, too. They have no guts to stand up for what their beliefs are because they're afraid of criticism. They're afraid of being called racists. They're afraid of not having gotten with the program. Now success can be defined two ways. I said earlier, "I don't know about this guy." I really don't. I've got my suspicions and they're pretty close to convictions, but we're going to have to wait to see what he does. Now if he turns out to be a Reagan, if he adds Reagan to his recipe of FDR and Lincoln -- HANNITY: (laughing) RUSH: -- and if he does cut some taxes -- HANNITY: Yeah. RUSH: -- if he does not eliminate the Bush tax cuts, I would call that success. So yes, I would hope he would succeed if he acts like Reagan. But if he's going to do FDR -- if he's going to do The New New Deal all over, which we will call here The Raw Deal -- why would I want him to succeed? Look, he's my president. The fact that he is historic is irrelevant to me now. It matters not at all. If he is going to implement a far-left agenda... Look, I think it's already decided: a $2 trillion in stimulus? The growth of government? I think the intent here is to create as many dependant Americans as possible looking to government for their hope and salvation. If he gets nationalized health care, I mean, it's over, Sean. We're never going to roll that back. That's the end of America as we have known it, because that's then going to set the stage for everything being government owned, operated, or provided. Why would I want that to succeed? I don't believe in that. I know that's not how this country is going to be great in the future; it's not what made this country great. So I shamelessly say, "No! I want him to fail." If his agenda is a far-left collectivism -- some people say socialism -- as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed?"

' Fact - he is NOT the first African-American president. He is the first “Half Kenyan American” ' -GAEverybody knows Kenya is somewhere in the Balkans.http://www.watson.org/~lisa/blackhistory/post-civilwar/plessy.htmlPlessy v. FergusonOn June 7, 1892, a 30-year-old colored shoemaker named Homer Plessy was jailed for sitting in the “White” car of the East Louisiana Railroad. Plessy was only one-eighths black and seven-eighths white, but under Louisiana law, he was considered black and therefore required to sit in the “Colored” car.Oliver Brown, Mrs. Richard Lawton, Mrs. Sadie Emmanuel, et al. — vs. — Board of Education of Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, et alMr. Wilson: Now, the views of the State of Kansas can be stated very simply and very briefly: We believe that our statute is constitutional. We do not believe it violates the Fourteenth Amendment. We believe so because our supreme court, the Supreme Court of Kansas, has specifically said so… It is our position that the principle announced in the Plessy case and the specific rule announced in the Gong Lum case are absolutely controlling here.

GA 5 years, 2 months ago

What did I think of his speech? He is a great orator but that is as far as it goes. This king has no clothes.Fact - he is NOT the first African-American president. He is the first "Half Kenyan American" President and half White! One could very easily argue that he is more White than Black as his White Mother and Granparents raised him. However, it is politically astute to try and get away with it. That way, he has the race wall to hide behind and anyone that opposes him for any reason will be labled a Racist by the Wacko Libs. The other thing about the speech that showed the Libs lack of class was when they booed Bush. And then they state it is time for all of us to come together and follow their Pied Piper. Well, Libs, we will show your president the same respect (or lack of) that you showed ours. Clear out of South Park, it is ours for the next 4 years as we protest each weekend everything he stands for.At least it will only be for four years, and then we will have the first female president - Sarah Palin!!

anxiousatheist (Clint Gentry) says… I'd probably be angry also if my ideology failed miserably in front of the whole country. Good luck conservatives, it'll be a good 10+ years before you will have any foothold to stand on......................................wow clint, pretty astute. the funny thing is that conservative ideology didn't fail miserably. Bush wasn't a real conservative. neither were many of the R's in Congress for the last 10 years. they were social conservatives, but not economically conservative. i think everyone can agree that neither Bush nor Congress were fiscally conservative during this period. Congressional "conservatives" are only now starting to get back to being "fiscally responsible", which started with their opposing the bailout which Bush wanted. in all essence, Bush's failed ideology was more Democratic than Republican....and look now at what Pelosi and Obama want to do. ANOTHER bailout. doesn't their fiscal policy seem similar to Bush, only bigger? thats because it is virtually the same. the one difference between the R's and D's is that the R's became the "borrow and spend" party, where D's are more for "tax and spend". both are bad.the Republican party will begin to gain back the supporters they lost when they return to their roots of fiscal responsibility/conservatism.you also forget that our current Congress, which has the lowest approval rating in American history, is dominated by D's, and has been since its approval dropped like a rock. i don't see their approval rising enough to keep R's from gaining at least a couple of seats in the Senate (hopefully Reid's) and 10-15 in the House in the 2010 election. of course, this is all assuming that REAL fiscal conservatives run against the horribly inept incumbents.BTW, Clinton was the ONLY Democrat to win 2 elections for president since FDR (60 years worth) as Truman and LBJ weren't elected their first terms. and even if you did count LBJ, Clinton was the only one in the past 40 years!Repubs will bounce back, as long as they don't treat Obama like current Dems treated Bush and they return to their roots.

Will one of his speech writers have their butt in the ringer for the error in the second paragraph? Or did the messiah write this himself and blow it?"Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath."No you big dummy, only forty-three Americans have... Grover Cleveland took the oath two times, once as the 22nd President and once as the 24th President. His terms were split by the 23rd president, Benjamin Harrison, thus Cleveland took the oath two times...Way to blow it on day one... the first of many to come...

I guess some of the posters here didn't like being told to grow up. Thats right sobriety sucks. Who ever thought that we get a president that would level with us as adults rather than tell us fairy tales like we were children. So unfortunate that some people do not get, that the ground has shifted underneath them. I love to see the struggle on this post to come up with Cr@P to tear him down. Know you will be judged by what you build rather than what you destroy.Oh yeah baby! I am going to love watching you creatures squirming to resist your own urge to give it up and join in. If you are really that dense and do not see what is happening and continue to resist with your vile regard. Then We will get to call you unpatriotic for resisting a patriotic call to arms. Remember we are willing to extend our hand if you are willing to unclench your fist. Guess what we just got OUR country back from your ignorance. Best inaugural speech I have ever heard!

President Obama identifies himself as African-American. though he is of mixed race, 50% White. He identifies with the Civil Rights movement though he (thankfully) has no slave ancestry. It is a blight on our nation's history that any man or woman of any race has a slave ancestry. And on the race subject, Rev. Lowry's final jab may the "white find the right" was a racist comment and highly inappropriate.

I was there, I waited in line with hundreds of older African-Americans who have waited their whole lives for this. I waited with people too young to know anything before the past 8 years. I waited with the old, young, white, black, Asians and Latinos, it was a beautiful day for America. If for some reason you are unable to understand the true change that has come to this country, I'm sorry, you are missing history right in front of your face. If you are a bitter partisan hack, (which we have plenty of here), your days are numbered. We will not allow your cynicism to spread, we will shout down those who believe that they only know best. Bush almost killed this country, the time for healing has begun! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!

In the interest of history, I watched an old video of Dr. King on Monday evening. I think many people were anticipating a day like that one, with a speech of that caliber. He failed to deliver and I fear the administation will too. When many folks come down from the euphoria they need to listen again. Our nation needs leaderhip. I think this adminstration is more about the leader than anything else. I'm not holding my breath. Change we will get; but will it be for the better?i

I won't single anyone out, but this group leaves too many openings.A commenter states, "I turned it after hew screwed up the second line…." Which is one line further than the commenter made it before "hew screwed up".Another commenter writes, "At least he used real words, not the made up variety that his predecessor was so found of.” Apparently, our writer has "made up" a new word (found) to mean fond; not to mention ending the sentence with a preposition. The writer continues, “Oh, and complete sentences with proper grammar and good diction as well." This “sentence” ironically lacks the elements of a complete sentence – subject, predicate, verb, etc.Thank you for the comedy relief.

Congress runs the country, not the president. Study your government and constitution for once. The executive only enforces the laws passed by the legislative branch. Bush isn't to blame for everything, and Obama isn't the Messiah for the country's problems. Vote in a new congress, an entirely new congress, and then you MIGHT see the change you so hope for. Otherwise... "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

I don't know; I didn't watch it or listen to it, and I haven't read it. It's just another speech, and I don't think it holds much relevance to my life today or his actions and decisions over the next four years.Also..."...it is the hope of recovery from the worst administration in American history."It's WAY too early to declare that. It takes a couple generations to gain the necessary perspective on an administration to make broad judgments like that.

0

Christine Anderson 5 years, 2 months ago

Okay. I did not want this man to become president. I didn't vote for him. But..yes, the speech was good. I really think, though, it's way too early to be celebrating. I still have some major reservations about Obama politically. No matter who the incoming Pres is, he has to prove himself over time. In other words, how can some of us be whooping it up about how great Obama is, when he is just now beginning his job?? I would rather take a "wait and see" attitude. On the other hand, politics aside, the man did look incredibly HOT in that tux, tails, white shirt....

0

tjhoops69 5 years, 2 months ago

WOW, the guy has been prez for 24 hours and all that feeling of hope and progress has managed to be reduced to name calling and kindergarten classroom bullying.I would ask you all this, not just republicans but especially democrats who are so fiercely defending the President...What is your call to service?? What are you doing in the community to make it better?? What people are you serving in this community?President Obamas platform, is about service to others and coming together as a country for the betterment of the world. What are you doing to make this a better place to live??Maybe if we show the republicans that we can be non-partisian and stop all the name calling and digs, then maybe we could get the republicans on board with us, instead of on this blog and everyone talking smack. So I ask again, and Im gonna come back to see responses, what are you doing in this community to bring this country together? Who are you serving in this community to make it a better place for all??

At least he used real words, not the made up variety that his predecessor was so found of. Oh, and complete sentences with proper grammar and good diction as well. What a refreshing change! Its hard not to admit that having a president that can use his native language properly and with eloquence is a nice thing.

I thought it was good, but pretty sober. My guess is that Mr Obama had a chance over the last couple of weeks to get a really good look at the mess he is faced with. After seeing all the problems, my guess is that he toned the speech down quite a bit.

I wish to give a great big compliment to all Americans. You did yourself proud yesterday. I was enthralled by the whole day. You must all cling to an audacity of hope for your future. I just pray it is as bright as it seems now. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!

flux (Anonymous) says… "I hope Obama doesnt take 4 vactions in the first 6 months of office like Bush did."There would be nothing better for America than if Obama took a four year vacation. Unfortunately, he'll spend every waking minute thinking of ways to spend your money.

flux:"flux (Anonymous) says… I hope Obama doesnt take 4 vactions in the first 6 months of office like Bush did."The liberals count Bush's meeting with Tony Blair in early 2001 as a "vacation" because it took place at Camp David. Of course, being liberals, they probably think Camp David is like a summer camp. However, if they were not so ignorant, they would know that Camp David is a Marine Corps base, just as Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendleton are Marine Corps bases.

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus:"At any rate, I got no impression from this speech that Obama intends to spend much time looking backward at the jerks who created the mess that's now up to him, and us, to clean up."From what I understand, he was looking down at one of the jerks (Ted Kennedy) who created this mess.

"It was a compilation of tired, old cliches, delivered very powerfully." GodotThat's about as good of a description as any.

Is it now okay for us peasants to speak Barry's middle name since he used it while taking the oath of office?

"...I got no impression from this speech that Obama intends to spend much time looking backward at the jerks who created the mess..."...but some of the posters on this board will continue to do so for years to come.

The speech was good. Inspiring. I hope the world will start to respect us more and we can shake that bully attitude. I feel he has the right attitude. Things are not going to happen overnight and anything that happened before Monday at 12a.m. eastern is not his fault.

0

Shane Garrett 5 years, 2 months ago

Thought the speech was average. You all know those relaxed banking regulations were put in under Clinton. Bush tried 19 times to have them changed but was blocked by congress.

0

Godot 5 years, 2 months ago

It was a compilation of tired, old cliches, delivered very powerfully. The best part was the use of lyrics from a song from an old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie: "pick yourself up, dust yourself off, start all over again." Pirouette, grapevine, jazz hands, big smile, slide.......unfortunately, he said it so earnestly and with such gravity that I do not believe he knew he was lifting song liyrics without attribution.

Stay on the meds folks you are going to need them in a few months when the economy nationally and globally goes down the drain. One consolation we can always blame Bush.

Bush Derangement Syndrome will be replaced by Panic Disorder Syndrome. Not in six months, but more like two or three years. Heck, within hours of the swearing in of The Chosen One, the stock market dropped 330 points, one of the worst days in it's history. The bailouts are not working.

just_another_bozo_on_this_bus 5 years, 2 months ago

"You can only blame Bush for so long, then who will the Democrat President, Democrat Senate, and Democrat House blame for the problems in this country."The speech was yesterday, not six months from now.Certainly many share the blame for the mess we are in, but no one deserves more blame than Bush, and those who have (and still) supported him.At any rate, I got no impression from this speech that Obama intends to spend much time looking backward at the jerks who created the mess that's now up to him, and us, to clean up.

How could this have been asked at the Merc on Jan 21, 2009? The sun isn't even up yet this morning, and these people are in broad daylight. At any rate, I thought the speech was a bit too pointed at the color of Obama's arrogant ass. This country is in for a rude awakening. You can only blame Bush for so long, then who will the Democrat President, Democrat Senate, and Democrat House blame for the problems in this country. Certainly not themselves. Not with our new messiah running the show. Let's not forget this man only has 2 years of actual elected experience. Sit down and strap in, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I think the feeling might be similar if it were McCain, it is the hope of recovery from the worst administration in American history.

I thought it was very good.As for, feeling a huge relief...that is a little dramatic and premature, don't ya think? His performance in upcoming days/weeks/months will tell if there is any relief to our current state of affairs.
