Who do you think should be responsible for paying for school resource officers?

Asked at Massachusetts Street on June 29, 2008

“I would say the school district should be responsible. I think the resource officers are an extension of the school staff. It's something that the school's requesting and the police resources are stretched pretty thin, so I think the school district should pay.”

“I think it should be a partnership between the school district and the city, because both parties benefit from it and the community as a whole benefits. So they should share the expense.”

“I think it should be the state. That's who we pay the majority of our tax dollars to in order to pay for things like that.”

“Well, either way the taxpayer is paying for it. But they are a city police officer, so my first instinct is to have the city pay for it. It's an assignment like any other, that just happens to be their beat.”
