I just started reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Coincidentally, The Toronto Globe and Mail last week in the book section published a review of this book by Benazir Bhutto. She loved it, couldn't put it down. It reminded her so much of her life growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan. I recently read another book about life in Kabul under the Taliban and this book reminds me of it. That was The Swallows of Kabal by Yazminz Khadra. This once beautiful country, full of a vibrant alive people has been so ruined by the Taliban and it breaks one's heart to read of the sorrow and pain of this people. Not very happy books to read, but I feel a compelling hunger to learn about them and their fate.

I know most Iraqi folks spoke Arabic; however, the Defense Department has informed me that they have changed the name to the Iraqi Language.
