I am reading The Second Cadfael Omnibus by Ellis Peters. It is three stories from the long list of Brother Cadfael stories by Ms. Peters. I have read a lot of them and love them dearly. Brother Cadfael is an amature sleuth living in a Benedictine Monastery in the early 1100's in Shrewsbury, England. I like the fact that I can put a face to this delightful Brother. It is the face of Derek Jacobi who played Cadfael in the series seen on PBS stations a few years back and oh how I wish they would make more of them or at least replay those already seen. Although Cadfael is a monk he was, in his younger years, a soldier and sailor who fought in the Crusades in Palestine. He gave that up to become the herbalist and chief physician of not only the monastery but the surrounding towns. He makes good use of the knowledge he acquired in the world and his knowledge of herbs in the solving of the crimes he encounters. Ms Peters is no longer with us and so we must be content with those precious stories that she has left us.

The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray... it's third in a trilogy. A young adult novel about an boarding school for girls in Victorian England, but with magic. Sort of a Harry Potter meets Jane Austen sort of story.
