Dressing everyone in bright cheerful clothing.

Leslie Swearingen 6 years, 4 months ago

I agree with snap, if you look cheerful, you feel cheerful and that is half the battle right there.I shall pray for you that you get your crackle back. I wake up in the middle of the night, worrying, where is his crackle, what happened to it? Was it abducted by aliens and are they probing it? I can't type anymore, the tears are spotting the keyboard.

Escapee 6 years, 4 months ago

Very funny, Multi...you spend a lot of time on computer, don't you?

Flap Doodle 6 years, 4 months ago

Cleo, you remember in Evil Dead 2, when the thing in the woods got into Ash's hand & it went bad? That's kinda what happened to crackle. We're all better off without him.

Escapee: Very funny, Multi…you spend a lot of time on computer, don't you?Multi: ... Study up, but somehow, I just don't think you'll get it. Quite the contrary, Multi... Escapee may well be on his/her way..."Criticize things you don't know about..."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uR8izTGsro( It is so hard to find the desired Steve content on YouTube. )BTW, I've resolved to be obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant, in the coming year. Turning the homeless on Mass. into street performers so they will become well liked members of the community.

Leslie Swearingen 6 years, 4 months ago

Snap, I had to look up Evil Dead Two as I had forgot it. How could I? You turned a chainsaw on him, is that what you are trying to say? Oh--my--God!It is going to take a lot to make the homeless into passable street performers. We are going to have to enroll them in theater and dance at KU. I say our best chance is having a whiskey relay run where they pass the bottle instead of a baton. We could have it at the KU Stadium or we could build one just for them.Life is full of possibilities. Ain't it cool?

Multi, I don't think you could write your way out of a paper bag. You're a lunatic manic depressive who has found a haven in the sarcasm of Lawrence's finest online junkies....You do have potential though...if ever you could temper the demons....But...I don't really think you want to join the race, do you?

Ronda Miller 6 years, 4 months ago

escapee, my little puppet...back into the darkest and most dusty of shelves for you...snip...snip went the strings.....foul mouthed little puppet.....I have always wondered from where you escaped and where you now reside/hide....multi doesn't need to join the race...she blows the whistle...shoots the gun....so the rest of us begin......the race.....she is on the side lines and judges which of us is the strongest...fastest...kindest....smartest.....and, so sorry, you lose, escapee....but there will be another race tomorrow...perhaps you'll get a proper start next time around.

Escapee 6 years, 4 months ago

escapee says, "Kindness is an act that begets dividends. 'Karma' is a derivative of energy spent. Positive energy begets positive karma. Negative energy begets negative karma.Wouldn't it be a better world if we all just tried a little harder to be nice…."Agreed....and as tange would say, "Words to live by".......

Stop flooding the residential market across the board which depreciates current values even further. Can't blame it all on the crooked Bush policies and rip offs.Lawrence problems began long before Bush when the bedroom community became the Lawrence growth policyaka boom town economics.Stop further flooding of the retail market thus promoting economic displacement and higher taxes/user fees. It is not fair to existing business owners or taxpayers. Both scenarios are unfriendly business practices and do not encourage economic growth. Don't even think about adding more miles of new roads considering Lawrence cannot afford to maintain what roads it has. Adding more miles of new infrastructure isnot planning ahead or expanding the tax base...it is betterknown as expanding the tax bills. Boom town economics has put Lawrence in the red.

Escapee 6 years, 4 months ago

Listen, folks. Go back and look at Multi's 'nasty' to ... me! Yes, she began this little tiff. And for the record, I very much agree with 'if you can't say somethin nice....'Multi put out a negative vibe to ME, and she got it right back. As well as little Miss Ralph Emery, RhoundaBout.Don't mess with me kids. I'll give you some free publicity you may not like.

BigPrune 6 years, 4 months ago

I hate to say it but Merrill must be living in fantasy land.Lawrence housing is kaput! From what I have heard, Lawrence's retail vacancies are caused by Lawrence's restrictive codes and regulations and the low vacancy rate should really be figured as a zero vacancy rate. The growth never pays excuse is passe'. Nobody is buying this fallacy anymore.

tangential_reasoners_anonymous 6 years, 4 months ago

Escapee: 1) And for the record, I very much agree with 'if you can't say somethin nice….'2) Don't mess with me kids. I'll give you some free publicity you may not like. Are not these two statements mutually contradictory, one seemingly conciliatory, the other threatening?

Escapee 6 years, 4 months ago

Yes, Tange, you're right. But I'm directing my comments to those who accused ME of being nasty -- in defense of myself. And I'm not 'threatening' anyone. Ever. I merely said I'd provide publicity for them. Any they may not approve of it, though it will be factual.I find it really third grade of you to perpetuate the 'negative karma'. What's your purpose?

Escapee 6 years, 4 months ago

Maybe misunderstanding...but not so much (I doubt) in the case of those above.

tangential_reasoners_anonymous 6 years, 4 months ago

Then, if we cannot resolve it,perhaps we can dilute it with our several intervening posts.,;-)

Escapee 6 years, 4 months ago

You are more wise than the company you keep, Tange. Play carefully.

tangential_reasoners_anonymous 6 years, 4 months ago

Escapee: You are more wise than the company you keep, Tange. Play carefully.More wise? I think not.Differently wise, perhaps... complementarily wise. But, you're right, it is play in the truest sense, everybody pausing with a gasp, if someone unexpectedly gets hurt.

Alrighty then. Not. Didn't think I hurt anybody...did I?

This city needs a few "adult" taverns. What I mean are taverns that have include patrons over 30 years old and people actually sit around and shoot the breeze. Taverns that have bartenders who know how to tend bar (e,g, make a gin and tonic, engage in bar chat, and pay attention to patrons when the drink runs dry). Taverns that don't require screaming because the music is too loud. Taverns without 15 TVs. Taverns that don't stink of pee or vomit and your feet don't stick to the floor. Taverns that don't serve your drink in a plastic cup. Lawrence only has college bars. Where do the adults go to drink in Lawrence?

Leslie Swearingen 6 years, 4 months ago

edjayhawk, you are so right! I don't think one comment has been about the subject, including me. Does anyone remember when there was a grocery store downtown and a Woolworth and Ben Franklin? Are their disappearance just a natural evolution of a small town? Lawrence is spreading out and growing westward. Something has to be done. A big store like Wal-Mart brings in a lot of revenue, so we need more business like that. Who shops at those cute little stores downtown? I can't even imagine who wears clothes like that. Some of the stores on Mass have changed ownership quite a few times. There were two movie theatres. The only store I frequent consistently is Penny Annie's.We seriously need a living wage. That creates better, more motivated workers and the business prospers. Our kids in both high schools are in just as much jeopardy as those in the big cities. Doing drugs and getting drunk is not cute or funny. They are going to be the ones inheriting this mess. Are most of them opting out now?

Deja Coffin 6 years, 4 months ago

edjayhawk, since you've only been commenting on ljworld since September maybe it took you longer then most to realize that some of us don't care to be serious all the time. Sometimes when you're serious all day every day at work it's nice to get on here and be lighthearted about a subject. Even if it's one that you obviously find to be of great importance. But all in all like it or lump it, it's the freedom of bored people with keyboards. I bet I could make you smile....I like a challenge!

To provide fair competition in the media. The ljw rules and is not held accountable for any thing said. There needs to be competition. Mark it - there won't be a newspaper in two years. Readership is down. The company is supported by the family with private funds. They are going down in a ball of flames. No one reads the newspaper and LJW doesn't have an answer. Their build it and they will come philosophy will finally be their doom. Unless they begin listening an acting upon customer's requests and needs, they are doomed. LJW will be looking for a bail out soon. They are poorly managed and the whole company has no vision or purpose. They can't transform from being a monopoly and dictating what people will receive. They don't know how to accomodate and meet the needs of the customer. Arrogance and a right of self-importance will result in their implosion.

I agree that fluoridation should be stopped and legislators should also stop taking political contributions from special interest groups which wind up costing us more for goods and services down the line. When Colgate or organized dentistry gives legislators campaign contributions, you pay more for tooth paste.and dental care. Your legislator is more apt to pass laws that benefit Colage and dentists than what's in your best interest.Legislators need to give up SOMETHING in these hard economic times.
