“Yes. I don’t think he was a very good coach for them, so we’re probably not going to beat them as often.”

“I am sad, because the Illini have been whipping up on them for about seven years in a row with him as coach. I’m deeply saddened.”

“No. I think he should have been fired a long time ago.”

Is this the first time a MU coach has been fired when his last victory came against KU?

supermel718 11 years, 9 months ago

I have always believed that Quin was an alien. He hasn't been looking great lately, and I think that the alien was finally starting to take over his body completely.

trinity 11 years, 9 months ago

i'm glad-the man looks like what i think satan must look like.

the last guy on ots? guess they really want us to know beyond a doubt that he's a KU junior eh?

Katie Van Blaricum 11 years, 9 months ago

I do think he's an alien also. Perhaps his supply of hair gel was running short and he had to return to the mother-ship.

beatrice 11 years, 9 months ago

ottr and I finally agree 100% on something! No, I'm not sad and I truly couldn't care less. If I did care, I am quite sure he will find another job soon. This story hits me with the same gravitas as a headline reading "Blinking light still blinking," or "Paris Lohan Lindsey Hilton suffers from exhaustion."

I wonder if Mr. Bang, the musician, plays drums?

Jay_Z 11 years, 9 months ago

Offtotheright: I agree, the more important story is "Failure to properly plan likely to hamper progress in city". Simmons is right on in his points....Lawrence has lacked adequate leadership for some time now. Not sure why they won't let us post comments on that story....probably direct orders from Boog not to allow it!

Applied_Logic 11 years, 9 months ago

Lilchick told me to be careful what I wished for. Boy, was she right!

born1980 11 years, 9 months ago

It's safe to come out of the closet now, Quin. Your wife left you and your unemployed.

Jclarkson 11 years, 9 months ago

Bobby Knight isn't going to columbia. Like all things mizzou, they'll end up hiring some guy nobody has ever heard of....then in two years, fans will wish Quin neer left.

born1980 11 years, 9 months ago

Only in Lawrence would people try to talk about local politics on a basketball story. Kind of like when KU was in the National Championship game and hippies were protesting the war. I said you know KU is playing today and they looked at me with their bloodshot eyes and started the hippie butterfly dance.

outoftowner 11 years, 9 months ago

Maybe Sean doesn't have a job - he's just a KU Junior

outoftowner 11 years, 9 months ago

Or maybe he's an unemployed janitor wearing $125 shoes and didn't want bloggers to analyze it to death.

l_eustacy 11 years, 9 months ago

I know how Quinn feels. When I coached at ISU, I partied hard in Columbia and was forced to resign. Hey, I think I have an idea...

born1980 11 years, 9 months ago

You got robbed Larry. My favorite comment of yours was in Manhattan, when you said to a student "I thought all the hot girls where in Lawrence."

beatrice 11 years, 9 months ago

born: "like when KU was in the National Championship game and hippies were protesting the war." That is right. What were people thinking? Protesting an unjust war (no WMDs, so turn it to liberating the people), when there was basketball to be played. Crazy!

Get your priorities in order, child.

I'm sad because I love it when MU is on a bit fat losing streak.

Derf, cheer up, you could be like me and have caught the cold from he!! complete with body aches, fever, congestion, and just plain feeling really crappy. Your "sad" existance looks pretty good to me right now.

OK, that typing really wore me out. A couple more Advil and back to bed for me!

Darth_Vader 11 years, 9 months ago

You know, you dumbasses don't have to reply to EVERY story or question on ljworld right?? If you don't care don't respond!!!

Fangorn 11 years, 9 months ago

Come on, Darth. Lighten up! I've interacted with many of these folks for a long time and even had the pleasure of meeting a few. "Above average and thoughtful" applies to about 90+% of them, and "exceptionally bright and insightful" will describe around half. You calling them "dumbasses" merely demonstrates your misunderstanding of why most post on this board. It's not just the questions of the day, which range from profoundly relevant (we've had some 200+ post days) to the absolutely innane (BunE and I both like vanilla ice cream), it's more the sense of community. Most come here more for the fun of interacting than for the question. So it doesn't matter if the question is about roundabouts or MLK Day or basketball or politics. We're gonna throw in our 2 cents, even if it feels like we've been overcharged.

beatrice 11 years, 9 months ago

So, Darth impunes our intelligence for responding to a question to which many of us have little interest, then fails to provide us with his own, imagined superior insight into the nation's emotional impact of the no-longer mighty Quin's resignation.

Now, who is the insipid mule?

In time he may come around. I know when I first showed up around here it was with flame thrower in hand. If I can mellow, I'm sure Darth can too. Hopefully he can do so without having to die in the presence of Ewoks.

milie, I think His problem might involve...skywalker?

the ots question: oh, he's now a former coach in what sport...where? MU. tell him to bring his own banner to KU games and get arrested by the KUPD chief of police, for a new job?

and, we should all credit Silence-dogood for this snowfall, as he/she employed a ground breaking method in weather inversion/creation. it worked. now, we're planning a weather puche to install a junta to rule over the weather forcasting. or, get a big midieval catipult to hurl rocks the size of VW's into the sky on dry days to bring down more precip. [100 years ago collumn a few days ago, a new hole was put in the roof of "the chemistry building" when explosion at nearby quary sent big rock into sky.]

Hi, bearded _gnome,

I'm going to start calling your "bearded EMERIL_gnome. That recipe for the roasted beef was wonderful, only I used a pork butt roast about 3.8 pounds. It never got to the paste consistency, for I think one and half cups of oil was a little much for the size of my roast. It smelled so good that a neighbor stopped by and asked what I was cooking--I think I'm the only one on the street that "cooks."

Have thought about contacting The Food Network and seeing if you can't be a TV cooking host. Do you do most of the cooking? If so, Mrs. Gnome has a jewel in you.

Who is Quin Snyder?

mossyoak64 11 years, 9 months ago

Speaking as a die hard Tiger fan.

sunflower_sue 11 years, 9 months ago

Gnome and Oldfashioned, Wish I could get jazzed up about roast this evening but food isn't sounding too appealing with this cold. I think it's the 24 hour type and my eternal optimism has inspired me to make a nice Challah (a 'la bread machine) for some good french toast in the morning. Just trying to plan ahead 'cause I suspect I'll wake up famished.

What did Ceallach say was a good cure for the common cold? Was it de-snailing the fishtank?

sunflower_sue 11 years, 9 months ago

mossyoak, fancy meeting you here! :o) What, you didn't like the 'Mighty" Quin?

mossyoak64 11 years, 9 months ago

You're throwing that "Mighty" word around pretty loosely!

Linda Aikins 11 years, 9 months ago

Here's Gnome's recipe, if you want:

Get a nonplastic non metal bowl (i.e. glass or Pyrex etc). put in, for example 1 1/2 C cooking oil. then, use at least one head of garlic, maybe more; chop garlic. put into bowl with oil. put a large amount of black pepper, ground, in, I never measure so must estimate maybe 1/4 C. the garlic and pepper should make the oil into a very muddy consistency. then, stir in salt (I use sea salt, kosher salt is good too), enough to balance the pepper. if you wish, also add whole pepper corns to the garlicy/peppery mud you've created. optional: chili powder/cumin/basil in much smaller quantities. cover. refrigerate.

day two: roast should be thawed. remove from package. cut slashes into the fatty side of the roast. if you've been soaking peppercorns, they're great in these slashes. rub the oil mixture all over the outside of the roast. put roast into roasting pan after the oil mixture is on. cover, refrigerate.

day three: roast...of course use a meat thermometer to achieve desired doneness. have foil ready for when roast comes out of the oven, remove at slightly rawer than you wish. immediately upon removal from the oven, put roast into the foil rap to seal in the juices. save all the dripping in the roaster, start making the best gravy in that roaster. after about fifteen minutes, your roast is done, and the stray drippings in the foil can go in for the gravy, along with the peppercorns/fat/ crust on the roast. your oil mixture will form a crust to come off the roast before you serve. in fact, take it off while you're making that gravy. yumm.

done. I have not been specific about times and oven temperatures for roasting. I like the resource at the Texas beef council's website for these, and they will vary according to your roast type and its size. my favorite: ribeye roast if we can afford it. however, a standing rib roast will give some nice Christmas presents for rover!

Gootsie, Thanks for reposting the recipe. I copied and pasted it into a file entitled "Pot Roast a 'la Gnome." I'm going to start keeping my eyes on the roast sales!

Mossy, You shouldn't call nice girls "loose." Didn't your momma teach you better than that?;oP

bearded_gnome 11 years, 9 months ago

Gootsie, thanks for posting that. I'm learning how to cut and paste, but have so damned sick for the last ten days that am putting off a lot of stuff.
worst was last weekend. am actually improving but I'd sure like to return this to whoever shared it!!!

bearded_gnome 11 years, 9 months ago

Oldfashionedgirl: thank you so much, but I am really just glad it worked so good for you.
yes, I do a lot of cooking and am good at it. mrs. gnome is also a good cook but doesn't do so much right now.
I'm not surprised that the wonderful aroma of it cooking attracted some one! garlic is the herb of love, and of course if you start cooking with a lot of garlic, you may not remain single there my dear!
the measures were approximations, and for pork you use less pepper and add sage for nice effect.
I always love to put pepper corns in it for a beef roast. they taste wonderful and give some real zing to that gravy.
if I went to food tv, I would have to give up my annonymity...can't do that. but thank you for the compliment, and I'm just glad to help you.

Mossyoak64, I admire your courage for coming to this board...took lots of guts, you know.

As for Quin...gee, I hope if I ever get fired, I can make over 500,000 on the fired, win 500k...pretty sweet.
