“I sure am. I play fantasy football and it has a lot to do with who I’m going to pick. I want to see who every team gets. That and I’m a huge football fan.”

Photo of Annie Flory

“ I just don’t care that much, but I hope the Chiefs get some good players.”

Photo of Nathan Lindsey

“Yes, because as ESPN says, the draft is very important. It decides the future of the teams you follow.”

Photo of Nastassia Weber

“I haven’t been, but I should. I want to play fantasy football this year so I can meet cute guys.”

enochville 12 years ago

No. I am more of a college sports fan.

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

I thought they did away with the draft. Don't the players want to play. I don't think they should just make anyone play. We have enough people in this country that they should just let people sign up to play who want to. Maybe pay them a little bit of money like the army does. Start recruitment in high school with some great TV commercials and such.

paladin 12 years ago

No, I'm still trying to follow the bouncing ball.

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

After the draft, I will look to see two things: 1)Who the Lions took (the next great potential star the Lions will ruin...), and 2)Which Michigan players, if any, got drafted.

But following the draft? No way.

enochville 12 years ago

Hey, I just heard that the KU Athletics department just hired their first sports psychologist. I am so happy. I have been calling for that for years.

Our basketball team lacks consistency and sometimes chokes. That has nothing to do with their skills, athleticism, or approach to the game. It is all mental, so I am glad that they now have a psychologist to help with that.

Thorny_Ramathorn 12 years ago

I was at Jefferson's last night and am pretty sure that everyone there had a face. Why don't we see them in this OTS? Maybe I wasn't at Jefferson's late enough...

I say I won't watch it, but I will end up getting sucked into Mel Kiper's hair. Man that stuff is beautiful. Check it out -->

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

OMB, that makes me laugh -- my local high school's top sports rival is a city called Dexter.

R_I, you remind me of my favorite sports headline. Actual headline from a newspaper's sports section: "Tight end returns after colon surgery."

Ceallach 12 years ago

Only if I have time for recreation, then I like to use the draft for wind surfing.

sgt, I see you are your own bad self this morning :)

Ceallach 12 years ago

Michael Legler doesn't look old enough to drink, let alone serve. Although, I find more and more people are looking too young for whatever their profession happens to be -- maybe it's because my eyes are getting old :-\

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

Cea, I gotta be me. I'm no good at being anyone else's bad self!

TOB, you mean you don't scour the daily updates to everyone's mock drafts and in-depth analysis of 40 times and Wonderlic scores? I mean, isn't that so fascinating and relevant to your life as a sports fan?

Okay, so I wouldn't be able to say that with a straight face.

BunE 12 years ago

I am more interested in the Military Draft! I am hoping to get into the tank corps!

My fingers are crossed.

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

OMB -- typographer humor. I love it.

JPT: see also: Tom Brady. Sixth-rounder, wasn't he? And yet he's helped his team to multiple super bowls.

It helps that he's out of Michigan. I got to watch him in college.

bearded_gnome 12 years ago

posted a much more interesting question under yesterday's.

following the draft, with what...Lisol? dumbth dumbth dumbth. zzz

Linda Aikins 12 years ago

Nope. Now if they accepted their bnew team's ball caps in speedos instead of suits, maybe.

There is a Dexter Kansas too. Or there was.

Linda Aikins 12 years ago

Oops - bnew. I'm doing a Fat Albert thing, I guess.

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

Gootsie, once I had an allergic reaction and looked just like that guy from Fat Albert. My sis had soooo much fun with that until the steroids kicked in.

Das, the hubby said "Amen to that!" after reading your post.:o)

beatrice 12 years ago

Wait, I'm sorry. Did somebody mention the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers! WOOO HOOOO! GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!! (but no, I'm not following the draft)

ms_canada 12 years ago

Well, I am not too much of a football fan, but this morning (while ironing shirts) I watched Matt Lauer (or one of his ilk) interview a few of those hulking beauties, I think I will become interested in the draft. My good man and I used to go to the football games here in Edmonton. We sat right behind the visitors bench and boy oh boy, talk about tight ends. There was one tight end from Vancouver that I could not tear my eyes from,. tee hee My bad

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

Ms_C, You must have eaten a hearty breakfast! You are quite onery this morning. You naughty, naughty woman, you! (But I agree whole heartedly! All those tight ends are one of the best reasons to watch football.)

Bea, The Steelers? I've lost all respect for you. (Unless, of course, you're watching for the same reason Ms_C tunes in.) ;)

ms_canada 12 years ago

S S - oh I did indeed. A french toast sandwich, two slices raisin bread with soy mozzarella between, soak in egg, soy milk and vanilla and fry till cheese melts and bread is golden. Cover in E.D. Smith sugar free syrup. Enjoy with a glass of vanilla soy milk. Yummy and filling. ( I am lactose intolerent)

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

It just occurred to me: during NFL games, the two products most frequently advertised seem to be trucks and beer. Is it really wise to advertise those two products together?

Me, I prefer college football.

Ceallach 12 years ago

ms_c, are Canadian football team uniforms as interesting as the Australian Football teams? Now there's a sport one could enjoy watching :)

Grundoon Luna 12 years ago

When my hubby was in school he was a power lifter and played footbal. He's got a NICE tight end. sigh

No, the draft does not interest me

ms_canada 12 years ago

ceallach - Australian football, I believe, is the same as English football. It is what we call soccer and the uniforms are like our soccer players. Canadian football, CFL, uniforms are just like your NFL. The affectionate British term for the game is "footie". Of the two, soccer and North. Am football, I prefer to watch soccer/footie. but, alas, the tight ends aren't so tight.

paladin 12 years ago

Nastassia, shame on you! Get thee to a convent. Or at least to church to meet some nice, decent young men. And think about changing your name, for heaven's sake.

bankboy119 12 years ago

JPT, the players make nothing compared to the owners. If you really look at the financials it's pathetic.

ms_canada 12 years ago

paladin - what is wrong with you, Nastassia is a beautiful name. She should definitely not change it. Surname, yes, someday when she meets a nice guy. Good hunting Nastssia.

Tony Kisner 12 years ago

OK, what is with the new invasion of Doormen? I thought the hottest career in Larryville was working as a Barista?

Where do all of these Doormen work? New high rises on South Park West?

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

Poor Nastassia if she thinks the guys playing fantasy football are all cute, single, and young. She'll learn. But I love the name Nastassia. She should go out and find a nice guy named Boris.

ms_canada 12 years ago

Hey Nastassia - I know a very nice hockey player named Vladislav. Hockey players are pretty hunky also. My Robbie is 6'3'' and 218lb. and rather good looking, if I do say so. But Boris is nice too.

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

Well, Sue, some of the guys playing fantasy football may be cute, single and young (hey, wait, I played fantasy football last year ... does that make me cute, single and young?). What Nastassia may not realize is that by and large, they will also be football fans. If she's not really a football fan, then I hope she's prepared to meet a few.

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

sgt, of course I was excluding you. As a woman of the OTS, naturally I assume you to be young, gorgeous, and single. Oh, and rich! :)

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

Well, Sue, I can tell you quite certainly that I am definitely, without one little doubt, young and single. Apparently the women in my area have been blinded by my looks and thus are unaware that I am single. Either that or I live in an area of exceptionally gorgeous people, and I am simply overshadowed. Maybe I should move.

As far as rich ... well, I can't even fake that one! All my money is in my camera equipment. (And my car payment.)

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

sgt, maybe you should show those girls your equipment. Some girls like a big zoom. (lens that is, ya'll get your minds out of the gutter!) I find camera equipment very impressive.

BrianR 12 years ago

I'm more interested in an NBA draft, Newcastle Brown Ale.

Ceallach 12 years ago

sgt, move back to Lawrence. ms_canada and I will arrange a cofffee house meeting and get some of you young people together, eh, ms_canada? Are you ready for another visit?

sgtwolverine 12 years ago

Well, if I ever make it down to Lawrence, I'll be sure to let you all know. Right now, it looks like the most traveling I'll be doing is just to Columbus (Ohio) to visit a friend. Chances are good that I, a Michigan fan, will make it out of Buckeye territory without injury. (It's not football season.)

RonBurgandy 12 years ago

I see who the chiefs take, and then stop watching.

ms_canada 12 years ago

I definitely am and a coffee house meeting would certainly be alright with me, if it was as much fun as last time. But 3 hours was a bit long. As the saying goes, "time flies when you are having fun." Sgt. - ceallach and I will line up the girls and you can line up the guys. Is it a date, sgt.?

Jay Bird 12 years ago

Screw Baseball. The Royal's suck. If you have to give away your tickets on pizza boxes and still can't fill your seat, then enough said. I don't really watch the draft that much because it makes me jones for the season to start and I don't want to rush through summer. Winter lasts long enough.

Ion_Joe_Snaps 12 years ago

The Royals are just a farm team for the more lucrative programs. A lot of our players end up having good years/careers at other ball teams who surely enjoyed having their players training paid for by someone else.

As far as the draft goes, I'd rather watch ticks race.

Nastassia 12 years ago

okay, so i was checking myself out...when i stumbled upon a bunch of strangers talking smack on me. obviously, i am not shallow enough to seriously answer that question like that. have any of you ever been asked a 'on the street' question? ofcourse you answer something crazy. this is very strange, you weirdos are talking about me. and who's this boris fellow?

paladin 12 years ago

Nasty, you seem like a good kid. If you're smart, too, you will find more constructive pursuits than posting on this board. Cause it will rob you of your innocence and corrupt your soul and leave you embittered and forlorn.

ms_canada 12 years ago

Nastassia - you must be new to this ots board. This happens all the time. Somebody makes a comment about one of the people pictured above. Usually they are harmless and a bit of fun. Someone picked up on your name being somewhat Russian and thought you would be a good gal for boris. who is just a figment of someone's imagination. Just a bit of fun. We are not weirdos, just nutty peop;e having fun a bit of fun on this board. And I must say, you are welcome to join us in our jolities. You can use your own name or choose a nom de plume like the rest of us. Join the fun, why don't you. we need some new blood.

paladin 12 years ago

What do you have to say, Boris?

paladin 12 years ago

Nasty, may I call you Nasty? If you're intent on posting comments hereon, you should probably dig out that liitle orange book you had to buy for Freshman Comp and couldn't sell back. And focus on the parts dealing with capitalization and punctuation. It will enhance the reader's comprehension and enable you to express your innermost thoughts and feelings more clearly.

ms_canada 12 years ago

It was Boris and Natasha not Nastasha, although the correct spelling would be Natassia. Nastassia - I hope that you are not taking offense at these comments as no offense is intended. And PALADIN we don't bother too much with correct english grammer or punctuation. :o)

beatrice 12 years ago

sun_sue: "Bea, The Steelers? I've lost all respect for you." Gosh, I never knew anyone around here had any respect for me in the first place. I'm touched! - even if it wasn't long lasting. : )

Have a great weekend!

sunflower_sue 12 years ago

Yes, My crack was intended to be a pun on the old "Rocky and Bullwinkle" show...although Nastassia is probably too young to remember the first run. I knew the spelling wasn't the same but it's all Greek (or Russian) to me.

Just had a date with my hubby and my two girls. Nothing cures a bad day at school like ice cream, a movie, and dinner. I picked the ice cream, the little one picked the movie, the older one picked dinner, so I guess the hubby will pick dessert. thought required there!

bearded_gnome 12 years ago

Heres an idea to meet cute guys you might try. Take a cooler of beer to one of Lawrence's roundabouts (with a sign that says "free beer for cute guys") and then sit in the middle of the roundabout and wait.

are you just trying to cause more accidents, broken roads, and traffic n jams in lawrence?

welcome Nastassia, spelling, grammar, clothing, all optional on this board.
