I like Cpt. James T. Kirk, because the "T" stood for Tiberius. Awesome name.

GreenEyedBlues 12 years, 9 months ago

I liked Guinan's hats from the Next Generation. I don't so much dig the original series. Primarily because William Shatner is a horrible entertainer.

bugmenot 12 years, 9 months ago

I guess Anjali liked Dr. Spock's baby books ;)

grilled_cheese 12 years, 9 months ago

I'm taking bets on how long it will take this thread to go political.

katethegreat 12 years, 9 months ago

I'll say Lt. Uhura...she made the show sexy...those legs!

neopolss 12 years, 9 months ago

I was always a fan of next generation, but the original series has its moments. Wrath of Khan is probably one of the best Star Trek movies.

Original - Capt. Kirk

Next Gen - Data

Jay Bird 12 years, 9 months ago

The Trebbles. Furry little creatures that were so cute. Makes me want to find some and drop the off at LJW.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

I'm with katethegreat, Lt. Uhura was the bomb! She was a beautiful black woman with an important job on the Enterprise. You didn't see that everyday in the 60's (or even now for that matter). And you gotta love the miniskirt and the go-go boots! She was gorgeous. And she still is! Watch "Trekkies" for a good laugh and you will see how well Uhura has aged. "Trekkies" is an eesential watch for anyone who likes/loves/lives Star Trek.

Why are folks so mad when we have a "fun" question? Do you really think arguing over politics on here is doing ANYONE any good? Besides, those topics turn ugly real fast. Some posters don't need the incentive to be hateful and divisive. I like informed debates. Is that what we have on here? Sometimes... but not often.

Topside 12 years, 9 months ago

Kirk, definitley, Kirk. HE always led his crew out of trouble except for the misc. no-names that got killed. Plus, he was the origional Pimp! He was a total Mac no matter what race of alien he ran across. -Big Pimpin' Easy Livin'!

Also, I enjoyed Bones' nurse a great deal, Grrrrrrrrowl! I forgot her name...all I can think of is Nurse Wrachet and I know that isn't it. Help me out folks.

I want my cigarettes Nurse Wrachet!

Hong_Kong_Phooey 12 years, 9 months ago

In the original series I liked Spock the best. He was a freakin' genius but he could whooparse if he needed to. Usually he would find a way to outsmart them instead of taking the Capt. Kirk (see: brute force) approach.

In the Next Gen I liked Worf for exactly the opposite reasons from Spock. One other good thing about Next Gen over the original was the tighter tops the girls wore. Some people may like the mini-skirts of the original better, but I prefer other parts over legs.

Fangorn 12 years, 9 months ago

kpippen: It's truly regrettable that you apparently lack the intelligence necessary to appreciate Star Trek. You can go back to watching Big Brother, Survivor, and Desperate Housewives.

Nurse Christine Chapel was played by Majel Barrett, who was Gene Roddenberry's wife. She provided the voice of the computer in the original series and TNG. She also played Couselor Deanna Troi's mother, Lwaxana Troi in TNG and DS9.

My favorite original series character was Spock (whether or not he held a PhD). The character was a great foil for Capt. Kirk and Bones.

italianprincess 12 years, 9 months ago

I don't lack intelligence and I have never watched Star Trek. I like sci fi, but never got into that show like some have. People like didn't types of shows, but its certainly doesn't mean they are not intelligent.

I guess you could say it wasn't my cup of tea and I didn't care for that type of show. I'm the same way with movies also. I like suspense thrillers and romantic comedy more then horror and cop chasing movies.

It all depends on what a person enjoys watching, not where their intelligent level is.

May God watch over the family of the gentlemen who played Scotty and help them through this sad time in their lives.

ms_canada 12 years, 9 months ago

Come on, now, you non-trekkies. How many series can you think of that generated the interest and loyalty of it's fans , and the longevity of Startrek. This series really took us out of ourselves and lightened a few hours each week. Fantasy is good for us in that respect. My favourite character was, along with so many, Mr. Spock. I also liked Chekov very much. Loved his accent. Bones was pretty interesting also. Oh heck, I liked them all, even Kirk, although Shatner is IMHO a lousy actor.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

For a good laugh, you should read kpippen's other posts. Talk about someone who had their cheerios peed in!

happyone 12 years, 9 months ago

I never got into the whole star trek thing but would have to say the few episodes I did watch my favorite would be Scotty.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

Now read WereAllMonkeys' posts. Talk about hilarious!

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Shatner was spoofed on MadTV by Will Sasso... often. And it got me laughing every time.

I really liked Scotty. Rest in Peace.

italianprincess 12 years, 9 months ago

Sorry about that Fanghorn, I must have skipped over what he/she posted.

I would like to know what kind of shows this poster watches since he thinks that sci fi is only for nerds. I have gotten into the show " The 4400 " and think its a cool show. Watched ghost hunters last night and those are always exciting to watch if you believe in the paranormal.

dont_panic 12 years, 9 months ago

Carmenilla - You're right! What's wrong with a "fun" question ever now and then? :) Sometimes it's just good to chill out a bit.

Anyway, I dunno. This is a hard one.

I loooved Capt. Kirk as a kid (Shatner was SoOo SEXY in his youth!) Spock had the amused eyebrow thing going for him (the ears, to me, weren't as cool somehow) and, sure, Scotty had the accent (albeit fake.) Hmm .. HEY .. no ones said Bones yet! The doctor was coool. As I kid I didn't really "get" the doc but, watching re-runs as an adult, the subtle humour and witticisms made more sense to me.

I liked the sarcasm of it :)

Confrontation 12 years, 9 months ago

Maybe we should discuss the tentative approval the city gave for the annual birthday celebrations. I think the $4,000 should come from their pockets. Children's programs are facing cuts, but the city wants to waste money on another city band performance? I'm ashamed to say I voted for any of these officials.

dont_panic 12 years, 9 months ago

My bad! Others HAVE mentioned Bones. Guess I'd beter read on before posting next time :)

Oh well.

Bill Martin 12 years, 9 months ago

Whether or not nerds and geeks watched Star Trek, whether or not they have wild conventions and made the average Star Trek fan look downright crazy by association, I loved the series for it's imagination, it took us places we would have never thought of while others were watching Gunsmoke...(good series too) But it brings out the imagination, gets the brain working, makes us say "what if?" That's how a lot of our technology today was inspired, I really will miss James Doohan "Scotty" as I do DeForest Kelley, "Bones", And of course the creator of this phenomenon Gene Roddenberry. So I'm a nerd...but I like to imagine "what if" RIP James Doohan you were right, the Enterprise was NOT a garbage scow!!

Liberty 12 years, 9 months ago

Captain Kirk did show leadership qualities and strength which most people sadly lack today including our President and Congress. The shows were very political for the day such as fascist society, robotic futures etc... They used mixing the silly with the serious.

Dr. McCoy had some funny one liners. He brought a light side to the show. Scotty could fix anything and was the married women's favorite because he could fix things (unlike most men of today which only know how to work their jobs and would be lost on a farm or if they had to survive without a job). The original series used more expressive acting to replace the high tech special effects in todays sci-fi shows, which have poorer acters overall (except for data and police state bully Warf).

The expressive acting was best in the original series because that is what made the show work so well with the enterprise and helped bring out the technology that was on board. Captain Kirk used the technology as a strength, not as a whimp. They had a few high tech devices but mostly showed inventive ideas such as the phaser and shields and the transporter. The other shows usually use the same devices and have very few new ones. The newer shows are almost always weaker in weaponry than their opponents and try to use their weakness to peacefully escape through diplomacy. Whimps.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

I also loved the old series for its revolutionary multiculturalism. An Asian, a black WOMAN, a Russian, a Scotsman (or Canadian ;-) and various alien lifeforms. Talk about "never-seen-before"!!! And yes, they were very subversive in bringing up real issues of discrimination or politics.

I thought "Next Generation" did that too. They had some great topics that were very political and philosophical.

How could I foget? Patrick Stewart made me think older bald guys were sexy. That was one hot pointy head!

acg 12 years, 9 months ago

I wasn't a huge trekkie fan, but I have to say Scotty was my fav. It's a shame he's gone. Capt. Kirk annoys me to no end. In anything he's ever done. I don't know why. My dad loved that TJ Hooker show. Remember that? Shatner is a horrible actor. Whoever said that above was totally right on.

Confrontation 12 years, 9 months ago

Apparently I have offended some trekkies by talking about reality. Sorry :(

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

But we must bash and/or complain about SOMETHING!!! Otherwise the terrorists win, TOB. Didn't you know?

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

Never watched the original star trek...but I have to say the I LOVE Shatner in Boston Legal. He's a hoot! (Never liked him in anything else, though. But since we are supposed to hate him and think of him as an ignoramus in BL, it makes it OK to like him.)

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

I think hot carl must be a poo poo head! Sorry to much time spent with a 5 year old I guess. I just couldn't help myself.

happyone 12 years, 9 months ago

Well I guess the LJW doesn't like Hot Carl's poop comments very much he's poted 5 times and 3 were deleted.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

This is hilarious! And someone wanted to talk about the city's finances. Why? When we can talk about poop!!!

happyone 12 years, 9 months ago

Das maybe you could bag up some of Carl's poop and set it on fire for the commish

happyone 12 years, 9 months ago

Hey das said he was feeling "pyro" and carl and his well poop put the two together

italianprincess 12 years, 9 months ago

Do you think the people who watch this board laugh, think some of us have way to much time on out hands and can wait until the next question of the day?

Just wondering here.........

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

Oh carl you couldn't handle any of us loud mouth gals on here. That takes a real man.

acg 12 years, 9 months ago

Wow, one goes to a meeting and then lunch and look what they come back to. I wish I had seen Hot Carl's comments before they deleted them. Damn the censorship!! You guys are never ending amusement for me, for real.

Ember 12 years, 9 months ago

The true beauty of Star Trek was not the acting, or even the revolutionary concepts that it brought right to the forefront of the American mind, like interracial dating.

The first interracial kiss on network TV was between Uhura and Kirk, albeitly forced as it was.

The true beauty was that in the face of a world that was slowly becoming more and more sour, it was a vision of hope. Where racial prejudices had ended, and all the nations of the Earth worked together towards a common goal of exploring and knowledge.

It is still a beacon of hope, if you stop and think about it, especially in the terms of The Next Generation over The Original Series. TNG gave us an even better view of that possible future, and the effect that tolerance, understanding and compassion could have upon us all.

The episode with Mark Twain in TNG, which I believe was the third season ender and fourth season opener (two part episode), expressed and shot holes in just ebout everything we fear these days, as well as think and feel about the world as a whole whether we admit it or not.

I don't have a single favorite character from Star Trek.

The interaction between the characters is what made it the cult favorite that it is today.

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

I guess I've been missing all the fun. How'd the newbie manage catapault this board to the gutter?

Staci Dark Simpson 12 years, 9 months ago

Darn I missed what Hot Carl said earlier!! Ban censorship! Ban poop throwing monkeys in the living room! By the way I just discovered this board last week and it is way too amusing and yes when my toddler is napping I have way too much time. Oh yeah I like Spock but I really wasn't into that show too much.

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

I think you have too much time on your hands young man. Does your mom know what your up to?

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

Hey TOB, I thought it was Cleveland Steamer? I heard that he's a pretty crappy guy all around ;-p

What about that "potty peeper"? Maybe he's Hot_Carl!

tell_it_like_it_is 12 years, 9 months ago

I always did think there were a lot of people FOS around here (myself included). Man oh Man is Ms. Canada ever gonna be mad at us tonight!

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

We're gonna get a stern finger wagging alright!

italianprincess 12 years, 9 months ago

Most of you in here are so bad. LOL

Wonder whos going to get deleted next. I really wouldn't want the job of reading and deleting all day long. It sounds kind of fun, but I would get bored to fast.

I wonder how much the people who have to read all of these everyday get paid.

Hows everyone doing with the heat today? I'm am so not looking forward to the electric bill next month.

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

In some deep do do from ms. Canada to say the least! Sorry just couldn't resist!

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

The heat is miserable. The humidity makes me feel like I'm inhaling through a straw. Yuck.

Getting removed is the least of Carl's problems if he(she?)'s actually trying to pick up chicks on an anonymous message board.

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Is it that difficult to resist checking a link? You guys are link-junkies...

tell_it_like_it_is 12 years, 9 months ago

Wouldn't even look at it with a welding mask.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

I can't get it to pull up! I know I will regret asking but what is the link's picture of?

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

Curiousity is gonna kill this kitty one day!

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

If you must check, make sure you run your scanners afterwards...

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

Can't get it to pull up either! Don't know if thats good or bad!

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Nod. It's a jpeg virus. Fortunately, it's really old and SP2 is patched for it.

That'll serve some for being curious. Carl is bad news. LJW delete his post.

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

Off Topic Alert!!!

Got another letter from channel 4...this one was even more condescending than yesterdays. Of course, I wrote one back.>:P

BTW, I don't even wanna know what I missed earlier!

the tubgirl is an internet phenom. you can live your life with out it unless you like things like goatse.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

I am ashamed to admit that I've seen "Tubgirl" before. I was unsuspecting when I opened it the last time. Now I'm glad that I know...Wait no I'm not....I'm actually horrified!

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Wow. I know the girl who wrote that article, merrill.

Nod. Overall, I'm disappointed with morality topics used as distractions from real agendas.

Note the plethera of media references to Roberts and the pro-life/choice debate. Roberts may be conservative, but he's interested foremost in big-business.

The media is frustrating sometimes.

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

Need you go on, Tom? No one else is curious and now you're just being gross on purpose. Be careful you don't get banned next.....Notice who's NOT posting today? But that doesn't mean they aren't watching. Just give it a rest, okay?

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

Well so much for supper tonight. Must be the heat bringing out all the weirdos

acg 12 years, 9 months ago

Wow. All I can say to that is GROSS!!!

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

TF: I read the wiki-article, but also visited some message boards that remarked that the image may have a virus linked to it as part of some messenger scam. I posted a link above, but there are many more.

Anywho, I didn't check the link myself. But jpeg viruses are real, so I posted a link to info. on the patch. No one doubts the picture exists somewhere... just be careful what you click.

Hi Folks:

A reminder:

Again, let's remember that this is an all-ages site; we're adults here, right?

Thanks a million. No -- a billion!

Ceallach 12 years, 9 months ago

Boy, did I ever get here too late today!!

I am/was a total trekkie! I admit it with no apologies. Favorite character? I loved them all, that's like trying to pick a favorite kid or something. Each character provided an important part of the cohesion that made the series so popular -- over and over again. I not only loved Star Trek, I love all of it's spin-offs. They provides a much better get-away than mere Calgon (although, Calgon is really nice too). Sorry, from what I've read bathtubs references should be avoided.

How many of you also got a kick out of "Galaxy Quest?" I think it is hilarious!!!

As to Shatner's acting ability -- he fits in perfectly with most movie and film actors. One role repeated in different environments with different names. In fairness to his current role, I have not seen it -- I will have to catch his "act" on Boston and see how he does. BTW, is Jerry (something), you know .. Seven.. still on Boston?

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Well, this has been a whole lot of reality for the day. I'm going out to dinner.

Have a nice Thursday, everybody ;)

Ceallach 12 years, 9 months ago

Isn't davidryan a sweetie? I wonder if he has a username and has infiltrated the ranks! Or...maybe he is forced to read (to keep us in line)...think of a lot of great replies he is dying to make...and because of some legal clause cannot participate! For all we know he is a regular poster...maybe you...maybe me! hmmm, excuse my ramblings, sometimes I tend to think in type :)

Ceallach 12 years, 9 months ago

Has anyone else really read the user agreement? If so, I guess I am truly bad!

Ban the user agreement!

Ceallach 12 years, 9 months ago

I think carl wins the award for worse then Hoofy. What a day. Sorry Ms. Canada we were pretty bad today. But he had it coming to him.

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

Ms_C, A very happy birthday to your good man!!! What are you fixin' him?

Wish me (and my good man) a happy 15th anniversary today!

Carmenilla 12 years, 9 months ago

Ceallach and ms_canada are unfazed by EXTREME potty humor!!! What have we done to them?

Warning Reading and/or posting on this forum can cause desensitization to subjects commonly discussed in gutters.

Happy B-day to mr_canada!

Happy anniversary to you s_s! 15 years ain't nothing to sneeze at.

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

Extreme, was that you playing the part of the now-banned "Hot Carl"?

After all, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it you who owned up to being "Goody Two Shoes"? (Well, you kinda sorta did, didn't you?) And didn't Goody Two shoes get banned too?

C'mon, Extreme, fess up!

Redneckgal 12 years, 9 months ago

Happy Birthday to your hubby Ms. Canada and Happy Anniversary to you Sunflower Sue!
Tomorrow I really must get some work done :)

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Hey, if any of you checked out the site before, it's been updated a bit since. Thanx

linux_chick 12 years, 9 months ago

Yep. Apparently, I'm a nerd who's not very entertaining.

beatrice 12 years, 9 months ago

Speaking of poop, what does everybody think about the supreme court nominee? He looks like a Wal-Mart shopper to me. (This is where I hold my hands up like Seinfeld, and say "Not that there is anything wrong with that.")

Okay, just kidding. Somebody had to make some stupid political statement today.

I like Bones. A real curmudgeon, but with a heart of gold.

sun_sue: Congrats! Hope you found a babysitter and can make it into town to paint it red.

ms_canada 12 years, 9 months ago

My hubby said to tell you thanks for the birthday wishes. He was well pleased with his supper, which was potato pancakes. An old Ukrainian favourite, with sour cream and fried onions, and cucumber salad. Before supper he had some nice shiraz that I bought for him. I don't like red. So I found a nice low alcohol white zinfandel for me. Later we will have some strawberry cheese cake. does that sound like a nice birthday celebration.
You know if someone would be nice and make hot carl something nice like that maybe he wouldn't feel so poopy. Tell you guys something, we have a saying here when we are really tired from working we say, "boy I sure am pooped." and it doesn't mean anything bad.

Fangorn 12 years, 9 months ago

IP: I've just now checked back on the board, so I didn't see your earlier post until this evening. TOB was right. My post was directed at kpippen. I was just annoyed that he/she felt it necessary to insult all us Trekkers. I know there are many intelligent people for whom ST holds no interest. I meant to imply that perhaps kpip had tried to be a fan but lacked the brainpower to understand it. I didn't mean to insult all the non-Trek fans on this board, just one of them. ;)

Happy Anniversary, SS!

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

No painting the town tonight...he took me overnight to the plaza last weekend to celebrate early so I'll forgive him (just this once). I had to aide a friend today, anyway. She needed me more. And we're getting ready to leave for a 3 week vacation. SO, no feeling sorry formyself (although I would have loved someone to make me some potato cakes and fried onions!) Man, that sounds good. I just made myself a BLT. Wasn't even real bacon. It was the turkey stuff. Boo Hoo! Oh, woa is me! Strawberry cheesecake? I think I have some gummy worms in the house. A tear hits the keyboard

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

OMB, I hear that most males cannot discern between 4 and 7 inches. Don't feel bad.

beatrice 12 years, 9 months ago

sun_s: Hopefully your man knows the difference, otherwise, should I be sending my condolences instead? Actually, 15 years is a good marker. Past it a while back myself. Keep up the good work.

Fangorn: Thanks for getting Trekker correct. (Where do these people get of calling us Trekkies, anyways? ) There is hope for you yet.

sunflower_sue 12 years, 9 months ago

Beatrice, Isn't there a book called "Why cucumbers are better than men"?

No, actually, my hubby is a human calculator and has a very good eye for measurements. 15 years and counting!!!
