Sally Irene Murray Larson

A visitation for Sally Larson will be held Sunday from 2 to 3:30 pm at RumseyYost Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday in Kearney, Neb. Sally Irene Murray Larson was born October 24, 1950, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska, to Doris and Max “Jack” Murray. Sally was baptized and received her First Communion at Saint James Catholic Church in Kearney, Nebraska. Sally attended Saint James Catholic school until second grade. She continued her education at Axtell Community School in Axtell, Nebraska, graduating in 1969. Following graduation, Sally attended Kearney State College in Kearney, graduating in 1973 with her bachelor’s degree in Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education. Sally was united in marriage on July 22, 1972, to Dudley Ray Larson at Saint James Catholic Church in Kearney, Nebraska. Sally started her teaching career in Minden, Nebraska, teaching fourth grade. She received her Master’s Degree from Kearney State College in 1978. Dudley and Sally welcomed their son Brett Ray on September 29, 1979. Dudley and Sally made their home in Axtell, Nebraska, living in Dudley’s grandparent’s home until moving to Lawrence, Kansas, in 1987. Sally taught at Sunset Hill Elementary in Lawrence where she positively impacted the lives of many children. Sally was well respected by her students and their parents. Sally taught for 42 years. Sally and Dudley enjoyed traveling and dining in search of the perfect barbecue joint. Their travels took them all over. Together they entered barbecue contests where Sally took pride as the presentation designer. Even though Dudley and Sally lived in Kansas they were still able to attend many Nebraska Cornhusker Football games together. Family reunions brought them to Sally’s childhood farm in the summer. Sally loved being with her family. Sally treasured time spent with her precious two granddaughters: Olivia, 5 and Lillian, 3. Shopping together brought them many happy moments. Sally will forever be remembered for her kind and loving soul. Sally never spoke an unkind word, and she will be missed and remembered everyday by her family and friends. Sally was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kansas. Sally is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dudley Larson. Son Brett Larson and his wife Danielle and their two daughters, Olivia and Lillian of Hebron, Nebraska. Mother Doris Murray of Axtell, Nebraska. Brother Max Murray and wife Teresa of Kearney, Nebraska. Sister Nancy Murray of Axtell, Nebraska. Nephew Chadd Murray and his wife Dawn of Kearney. Niece Angela Philbrick and husband Trent of Gering, Nebraska and seven great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Max Murray. Grandparents, Myrtle and Max Murray (Paternal) and Blanche and August Bleck (Maternal). The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas Summer food program, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
