Janet Joyce Craig

Janet Joyce Craig, 79, of Baldwin City, KS passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her home. The daughter of Wilson George and Erma (Compton) George, Janet was born August 24, 1938 in Neosho Falls, KS. She graduated from Neosho Falls High School with the class of 1956 and in 1959 graduated from the Stormont Vail School of Nursing, Topeka, KS Janet worked for more than 25 years as a Registered Nurse, first at StormontVail Hospital until 1963 and then from 1975 to 1992 at Orchard Lane Nursing Facility in Baldwin City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City, Baldwin Friends of the Library, Arthritis Foundation and Stormont Vail Alumni Association. On February 14, 1960 Janet was united in marriage to James Craig in Neosho Falls, KS. They shared over 56 years of marriage until Jim’s death in 2016. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Kay George. Janet is survived by her three daughters, Joni K. Craig of San Diego, CA, Jami Craig Veatch and husband David Veatch of Olathe, KS and Dr. Jana CraigHare and husband Sean Hare of Baldwin City, KS; brother, Larry George of Junction City, KS and a grandson, Dawson Craig Veatch of Olathe, KS. Janet was a caregiver at heart. She was creative, kind, generous, patient, funloving, thoughtful, and determined. She loved being “The Cookie Lady,” and her candy dishes were always full. She was the best at knowing how to “make memories.” Her family was her world. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 8th at Baldwin First United Methodist Church, 704 8th Street, Baldwin City. The family will receive friends for a celebration of Janet’s life from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 7th at the LambRoberts Funeral Home, 712 9th Street, Baldwin City.
