Richard John Brown

Richard “Dick” John Brown, 81of Lawrence, Kansas passed away on March 27, 2017 at Olathe Medical Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.
Richard was born on March 6, 1936 the son of Mathew “Matt” and Clara (Kloppenberg) Brown. He worked for over 35 years for Cutler Repaving in Lawrence, Kansas until his retirement in 2007. Richard was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence, the Knights of Columbus and Dorsey­Liberty Post #14, American Legion. You could always find him working out in his shop, tinkering.
Richard married Kay Makovec in 1960 and they later divorced. He then married Dorothy (Brown) Phannenstiel in July of 1975. She died in 2013. Richard is survived by his daughter Jennifer Miller and husband Tim of Bucyrus, Kansas, son Jeffery Brown of Kansas City, Kansas, step children Philip Phannenstiel and wife Carol of Marquette, Michigan, Karen Hunt and husband Ted of Prescott, Arizona, grandsons Justin King and wife Alicia of Olathe, Kansas, Lucas King of Topeka, Kansas, four step grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren, sister Alice Forrester and husband George of Emporia, Kansas and nephew Kevin Price of Nashville, Tennessee. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents and a daughter Theresa Brown.
The Rosary will be recited 6:30 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Roberts­ Blue­Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. The family will receive friends following the Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 3, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. The Celebrant will be Father Brandon Farrar of the Church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Emporia. Military Honors will be by Ball­McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry­-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Medical Hospice House and sent in care of Roberts­-Blue-­Barnett Funeral Home.
