Raymond Clifford Flory

Graveside services with full military honors for Raymond Clifford Flory, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Washington Creek Cemetery, N. 600 & E. 550 Rd., rural Douglas County, with the Rev. Jane FloraSwick officiating. Mr. Flory died Wed., Feb. 22, 2017, at his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Lawrence, the son of Arthur M. and Blanche R. Fox Flory. He attended Apple Pie and Lone Star rural 8grade schools, and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951, and served three years in England at Bentwater Royal Air Base during the Korean War. Raymond had rural can and bulktank milk routes from area farms. Later he owned and operated car washes and a laundromat in Lawrence until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Lone Star Church of the Brethren, the American Legion, and a charter member of the Lone Star 4H Club. He married Caroline Torneden on Mar. 6, 1955, at the Clinton Presbyterian Church. They were married nearly 62 years. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Roger C. Flory and wife Teresa; a daughter, Rhonda D. Bruce; five grandsons, Tim Flory (Jana), Brian Flory (Julie), Mark Flory (Jessica), Ryan Bruce (Kate), and Ronnie Bruce (Jessica); and eight great grandchildren, Brevin, Maison, Cole, Piper Jo, and Evelyn Flory, and Wyatt, Lexi, and Lily Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Calvin and wife Jean, and his brother-in-law, Floyd Torneden.
