William Michael (Boon) Copp

Known to most of us as “Boon,” Copp died on Nov. 14. Born in Lawrence on Oct. 14, 1949, the son of Shirley Jean (Patton) Copp and William W. Copp, he was well known in the community as the owner of Boon’s Produce, a small business he ran for 30 years before retiring in 2010. While fond of traveling, recent years were spent cultivating a “wildlife sanctuary” at his farm outside town. He was an avid reader and sharp thinker; and a funny, generous, and unwavering person. He is survived by two children, Corina Michelle Copp of Brooklyn, New York, 36, a writer, daughter of Robin Case; and William Anthony Copp, 26, son of Pamela Harrell, husband to Amber Lynn Copp; a sister, Patricia Boyle, her husband Ted Boyle; and brothers Donald C. Copp and Monti D. Copp and wife Rosalie Copp, all of Lawrence. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Dakota Jean Copp. A celebration to honor Boon’s life (a potluck!) will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 5:30 PM at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. 2nd Street.
