Helen Louise Edwards

Funeral services for Helen Louise Edwards, 81, Bonner Springs will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at De Soto Baptist Church in. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. She passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at her home.

Helen was born December 26, 1933 in Milo, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Allen and Veva Mae (Kessler) Chase.

She was a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a Queen in the Red Hat Society, a past president of the Santa Fe Women’s Club, past president of the Lawrence Welcome Club, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the De Soto Baptist Church and the American Baptist Women – Region Association and local.

She worked for Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in Kansas City and Topeka until she retired in 1998. She had previously worked as an accounting clerk for Northwestern Bell in Des Moines, IA.

She married Kenneth Clark Edwards December of 1962 in St. Joseph, MO. He preceded her in death May 12, 2002.

Survivors include one son, Gordon Allen Jones, Bonner Springs, KS; one daughter, Monica Sue Allen, Ashville, AL; two grandchildren, Dawneen A. Benedetto and husband, Jacob Benedetto; and one sister, Melinda Sue Cole, Des Moines, IA. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Allen Chase.

The family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Red Hatters come to funeral in full red & purple dress.
