Opal Mae Tuckel

A funeral service for Opal Mae Tuckel, 92, Lawrence, will be 10 am Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Tuckel died Saturday, January 24, 2015, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Opal was born November 28, 1922, in Salina, KS, the daughter of Rudolph and Elise Olive Garrison Dietz. They moved to Lawrence when she was one. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School.
She married Ernest Arthur Tuckel on December 7, 1941, at her parent’s house near Lone Star. Ernie & Opal were married for 61 years until Ernie’s death in 2002.
Mrs. Tuckel was a hard working homemaker, helping her husband with their dairy and crop farm while raising 4 children. Her love of cooking was well known and led her later to selling homemade baked goods at the Lawrence Farmers Market. She volunteered for many years at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons Larry, Terry and David Tuckel all of Lawrence; one daughter Virginia Hare, Prairie Village, KS; sister-in-law Thelma Dietz, Lawrence; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Wednesday where the family will receive them from 7-8 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
Flowers are welcome but the family suggests memorial contributions made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurses.
