Allen K. Winter

Allen K. “A.K.” Winter, 86, of Lecompton died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his home in rural Lecompton. He was born November 20, 1927 in the Kanwaka community of Douglas County, the son of Charles Baker and Jessie Trowbridge Winter. A mechanic and farmer, “A.K.” farmed all his life on the family farm in the Lecompton area, first farming with his father and then his wife, Charlene. He worked as a maintenance man for F.M.C. for 23 years and the Quaker Oats Company 13 years, both in Lawrence before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawrence. He was 1945 graduate of Lecompton High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1951 to 1954. He was married to Charlene Fae Luckan on March 6, 1956 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence, she survives at the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary (Tracy) Icenogle, Roeland Park, Dr. Sharon Lewis, Roeland Park, five grandchildren, Julia Icenogle, Yakima, WA., Luke Icenogle, Kansas City, MO., Brandon (Stefanie) Lewis, Douglass, KS., Wade (Suzanne) Lewis, Roeland Park, and Neal Lewis, Minneapolis, MN., and a great-granddaughter *soon to be born. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette K. Bohan in 1989, a son-in-law, Bradley W. Lewis and an infant brother.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 28, at the Lecompton Territorial Capitol Museum followed by a reception visitation. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton. In lieu of flowers, “do something good” or “perform a random act of kindness for someone else” 🙂 The Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa is assisting the family.
