In Loving Memory
Mildred (Millie) Elora Poindexter was born June 12, 1918, at the family farm on the Douglas/Franklin County line, the daughter of Ben and Vada (Keagy) Nelson. Millie attended Minneola School near Centropolis and Ottawa High School. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin and Douglas Counties.
She was a cook and baker, known for her wonderful pies, and was the co-owner along with her husband Cliff of the Oak Lodge Restaurant, south of Baldwin Junction on Highway 59. In later years she worked as a baker at Rusty’s and Daylight Donuts in Lawrence.
Millie left for her home in Heaven on Thursday evening, March 20, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook.
She was married to Cliff Poindexter in 1936 near Centropolis in Franklin County. They divorced many years later and remained very good friends.
Survivors include a son, Dee Poindexter (Joy) of rural Baldwin City; two daughters, Paige Heck of Lawrence and Linda Poindexter of Ottawa; grandchildren Rhonda Ball, Chad Poindexter, Mike Poindexter, Cheryl Wedermyer, Andy Wedermyer, Nate Wedermyer, Frank Heck, Troy Heck, Jill Bowen, Cara Muths; and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant daughter, Patricia Poindexter; her ex-husband Cliff; siblings Margaret Thrasher, Harold Nelson, and Lester Nelson.
Millie will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her enjoyment and excellence in cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, and her love for her many friends.
Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, we will someday join you in Heaven. Until then, we will hold you and our wonderful memories of you in our hearts.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 25, 1 p.m., at Sutton Cemetery, on 56 Highway.
