Evelyn D. Thompson

Evelyn D. Thompson, age 72, of Eudora, KS, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2013, at her home.
She was born on December 14, 1941, in Garnett, KS, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Talbot) Zwiener. She attended Garnett High School. Evelyn married Lyle Wellman in 1957, making their home in Lawrence, Kansas. She worked at Hallmark Cards and Eudora Nursing Center now known as MedicalLodge. Evelyn was a L.P.N. for 36 years. She was particularly fond of being a caretaker of others, also providing hospice service after she retired from nursing.
Evelyn loved to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events as they were growing up. She loved vacationing with her family and friends, especially the Branson trips. Evelyn enjoyed visiting and treating her family to her favorite restaurant, Applebee’s. She enjoyed watching ice skating, holiday parades, and reading in her favorite recliner.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Zwiener.
She is survived by her three children, Gloria Newman and husband Robert of Lawrence, KS; Richard Wellman of Overland Park, KS; and Donald Wellman and wife Erin of Eudora, KS; eleven grandchildren, Christy McCart; Jennifer Eisele; Ella Newman; Brittany Wellman, Jackson Wellman, Jordan Wellman; Clinton Litherland; Chelsie Shackleford; Dylan Litherland; Austin Wellman; and Maria Wellman; seven great grandchildren; her mother, Gladys Zwiener of Garnett, KS; two sisters, Carol Powelson of Richmond, KS; Sandy Erhart and Pat Tate of Garnett, KS; one brother, Larry Zwiener and wife Linda of Garnett, Kansas; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, KS. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evelyn Thompson Memorial Fund.
