George Albert Meinholdt

Memorial services for George Albert Meinholdt, 89, Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October, 14, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
George was born January 29, 1924 in McFarland, KS the son of Charles and Rose (Kugler) Meinholdt.
He graduated from Alma High School in 1943.
He served his country in the US Army for 5 years and for 17 months in the 387th Engineer Combat Battalion in Korea.
He was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers and the Kansas Association of Power Engineers and was their President in the 1970’s.
He was the Chief Engineer for Topeka State Hospital. He later worked for the University of Kansas as the Head of Facilities and Operations until he retired in 1989.
He was married to Helen L. (Morgan) on August 11, 1951 in Alma, KS. She preceded him in death April 8, 2010.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Overeem and husband, Michael, The Dalles, OR, Connie Meinholdt, Big Rapids, MI, Debra Meinholdt Rowe and husband, Paul, Alexandria, VA, Sherry Meinholdt, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Emily and Katie Rowe and Ala Wyrick; one great grandchildren,Gavin Taylor; two brothers, Louis Meinholdt, Bethany, MO, and Frank Meinholdt, Emporia, KS. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther, Helen, and Josephine; two brothers, Robert and Leo.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
