Sharon M. McDonald

Sharon M. “Mrs. McD” McDonald, 66, passed away March 27, 2013 at her home. Mass Celebration in honor of her life will be held Monday at 10:00, April 1, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Sharon was the youngest of four children, she was born July 5, 1946 in Lorain, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Alice (Mackert) DeChant.
She married Russ McDonald on July 8, 1967 in Avon, Ohio. Russ survives at their home in Lawrence, Kansas.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kimberly (McDonald) Heiman, and husband, David, of Fayetteville, GA, Amy (McDonald) Erwin, Lawrence; one son, Dr. Jimmy McDonald, Lawrence; six grandchildren, David Jr., Georgia, Nicholas, Tanner, Bailee, and Aidan; one brother, Bill DeChant, and wife, Sue, of LaQuinta, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles “Chuck” DeChant; sister, Clara Schilens; granddaughter, Mary Anne (Mae) Erwin; and nephew, David DeChant.
Mrs. McDonald, was a teacher at St. John Catholic School for 22 years. Prior to that, she taught at St. Ann’s Catholic School in Fayetteville, NC. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was active in many school related activities, most recently providing input for the design of the future Science Laboratory.
Mrs. “McD” loved teaching but she loved her students more. She will always be remembered as an inspirational teacher and friend by many, a devoted wife to one and a mother and doting grandmother. Our hope is that she is remembered as being full of life, love, laughter and grace.
The family will greet friends from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in her name to St. John’s School Building Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
