Wilma B. Meyer

Wilma Meyer, 81, Lawrence, passed away peacefully at home March 25, 2013. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday March 29 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence. A short graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary on Thursday, March 28.
Wilma was born January 20, 1932 in Pleasant Hill, MO, the younger daughter of Edgar and Josephine Steele. She is preceded in death by her sister Delores Brewer.
She married Allen E. Meyer in 1962, and they lived in Lawrence their entire lives together. Wilma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Wilma worked for 20 years as a nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1995. After retirement, she volunteered with Visiting Nurses Association and also enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends and family. She loved watching KU basketball and was a passionate fan.
Wilma is survived by husband, Allen Meyer; daughter, Laura Meyer Pfeifer and husband Dale; son, Tim Meyer and wife Michelle; and grandchildren, Leah Pfeifer, Noah Meyer and Melanie Meyer.
During the last years of her life, Wilma was cared for at home by husband Allen and a loving caregiver, Shirley Bailey. In addition to Shirley, Wilma’s family would also like to thank Melissa Transue, VNA Hospice nurse, for her compassionate care.
