John Cass Lenahan

John Cass Lenahan Sr., 90, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Friday July 19, 2013 at the V.A. Medical Center, Leavenworth.
Funeral 10 am Saturday July 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday at the Church where a rosary will be said at 7pm.
John was born January 13, 1923 in Tonganoxie, KS, the son of Frank and Lucile (Rathbone) Lenahan. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the WWII European Theater serving with the 57th Bomb group in the 124th Air Force. He was a life time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was past president and a founding member of the Tonganoxie Historical Society, and had written 3 books on the history of Tonganoxie. He enjoyed reading western novels and listening to classical music. He was united in marriage on June 12, 1954 in Tonganoxie, KS to Jean Rountree who preceded him in death December 10, 2001. He retired as the owner and operator of Lenahan Hardware, Tonganoxie.
Survivors include; one son, John Cass (Chip) Lenahan, Jr., Lomax, IL; two daughters, Beckie Lucile Myers, Holt, MO, Angela Jean Lenahan, Lawrence, KS; one brother, Robert L. Lenahan, Tonganoxie; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
