Nancy Lucille Oakes

Nancy Lucille (Hodges) Oakes, age 70, of Ottawa, KS died December 20, 2013, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She was born July 13, 1943, in Santa Monica, CA, the daughter of Orland Hodges and Lucille (Spalubury) Hodges

She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1962.

Nancy moved to Wichita, KS, in 1984 where she managed the kitchen at South East Wichita High School. She returned to Ottawa in 1993, and worked as a Paraprofessional at USD #290 from 1994 to 2000. Nancy loved working with children and sharing knowledge.
She was united in marriage to Joe Oakes on February 14, 1978, in Ottawa. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

She was a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church. Nancy was also a very active member of Ottawa Art Guild, including teaching art. She was a former president of the Art Guild. Teaching and sharing art were among her passions.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steve Hodges.
Nancy is survived by her husband Joe Oakes, of the home, sons, Terry Pinegar, Williamsburg, KS, Rex Pinegar Topeka, KS, Brian David Oakes, Forest Lake, CA, Bradley Duane Oakes, Chicago, IL; daughter, Melanie Klamet, Lawrence, KS; sisters; Shelly Callahan, Chicago, IL, Sue Ellen Palesky, Wamego, KS, Patty Hoekstra, Apache Junction, AZ; brothers, Jim Hodges, Castle Rock, WA, Dusty McLean, Mulvane, KS, Chuck McLean, Emporia, KS.

Funeral services for Nancy Oakes will be Saturday, December 28th, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church.
