Janice M. Colman

Funeral service for Janice M. Colman, 90, Eudora, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel. Burial will follow at Eudora Cemetery. Ms. Colman died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Pioneer Ridge.
She was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Lawrence, the daughter of Harry Oscar and Gesina “Zena” Ziegler Guenther.
She graduated from Eudora High School in 1938. She attended Lawrence Business College and was an accountant for Ship Winters, Bill Ireland and Turner Chevy dealerships. She worked for KC Parks & Engineer and Hercules Powder Plant.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and a native Eudoran. She was also a longtime Avon Representative. She was a member of the Jolly Dozen and Golden Agers Club.
She married Arlan “Keith” Colman on Feb. 9, 1942, in Yuma, Ariz. They traveled on many trips overseas and enjoyed short trips to Branson, Mo., in their later years. They both took a very active role in the raising of their only four grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death Jan. 15, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Arlan Kay Colman, on Sept. 28, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Rogers, Lawrence; a sister, Doris Touchton, Pittsburg; sister-in-law Maxine Guenther, Lawrence; four grandchildren, Lisa Rogers, Cole Rogers, both of Colorado; and Derek Rogers and Damon Rogers, both of Lawrence; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and may be sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
