Emma E. Teeter

Services for Emma Elizabeth Teeter, 94, Lawrence, will be held later in La Porte City, Iowa, with inurnment in West View Cemetery there.
Mrs. Teeter died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.
She was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Martha Salling Larsen, both natives of Denmark.
She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1934, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Mrs. Teeter worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, and retired in 1945 to rejoin her husband returning from World War II. She later worked as a bookkeeper for a building contractor and a country club in the Kansas City area.
Mrs. Teeter was a member of Village Presbyterian Church and its Women’s Circle while living in Prairie Village. She was a Cub Scout den mother, and also assisted with Girl Scouts. After a granddaughter was diagnosed with celiac sprue in 1982, Mrs. Teeter founded the Celiac Sprue Association of Greater Kansas City, and assisted national chapters in Phoenix, Omaha, Neb., and Des Moines, Iowa. After living in Mesa, Ariz., for 13 years, she and her husband moved to Lawrence in 2000.
She married Lt. Cecil G. Teeter on June 23, 1942, in West Palm Beach, Fla. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Steven R. and wife Sharon, Campbell, Calif.; two daughters, Marilyn M. Teeter, Lawrence, and Patricia A. Zara and husband George, Blytheville, S.C.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ann Larsen, Clear Lake, Iowa; and 17 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Larsen; a sister, Marie Kogan; and a granddaughter.
