Edith Mary Walton Marshall

A memorial service for Edith Mary Walton Marshall, 91, Lawrence, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will be later at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.Mrs. Marshall died Friday, June 16, 2006, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.She was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Harvey County, the daughter of James Harrison and Cora M. Foster Walton.She graduated from Sedgwick High School in 1933, the same year she became the first female newspaper carrier for the Wichita Eagle.Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker. She was a 4-H member and received national recognition from the National 4-H Foundation. She was a member and past president of Business and Professional Women and received the Kansas BPW of the Year award. She had been secretary for Harper County Farm Bureau and president of the Anthony Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.She moved from Anthony to Lawrence in 1996.She married John E. Marshall on April 8, 1939, in Sedgwick. He died Jan. 13, 2002.Survivors include a son, John W. Marshall, Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter, Coralee Ann “Corky” Caillouet, Lawrence; a brother, Eugene Walton, Valley Center; four grandchildren, Keri Griffin and husband Bennett of Lawrence, Marylee Ramsay, Heather Marshall and J.P. Marshall; and four great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends after the service Saturday at the church.The family suggests memorials to Southwestern College in Winfield or Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
