Mildred Taylor

Services for Mildred Taylor, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth Congregational Church. She was cremated.Mrs. Taylor died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Lakeview Manor Nursing Center in Lawrence.She was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Goliad, Texas, the daughter of Daniel Herbert and Myrtle Killebrew Williams. She graduated from high school in Goliad and attended George Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. She graduated from Eastern Washington College of Education in Cheney, Wash., with a bachelor’s degree and received a master’s degree from California State University in Chico, Calif. She had lived in Lawrence since 1998.Mrs. Taylor taught grades four through eight for 28 years at Buckeye Elementary School in Redding, Calif. She was a reading and media resource specialist, as well as a master teacher. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority.She married Adelbert James “Jim” Taylor on Dec. 19, 1947, in Vallejo, Calif. He died March 21, 2005.A daughter, Betty, died earlier.Survivors include two sons, Don Taylor, San Francisco, and James Taylor, Beeville, Texas; two daughters, Suzie Taylor-Meadows, Lawrence, and Mary Moody, Big Lake, Alaska; a brother, Roy Williams, Eagle River, Alaska; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to a school reading program or a library of the donor’s choice.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
