Ardella LaVerne Winterburg

Services for Ardella LaVerne Winterburg, 82, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will be at a later date in Pioneer Cemetery in Lawrence. Mrs. Winterburg died Friday, May 27, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She donated her body to the University of Kansas Hospital.She was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Tecumseh, the daughter of LeRoy William and Ardella Hubbard Offen. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University, where she majored in accounting. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Society. She majored in voice and later received a degree in art history from Kansas University.Mrs. Winterburg was a WAVE and storekeeper, first class, in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a partner in the Stinky Cheese Shoppe in Lawrence. She was a member of Lawrence Flower Club, KU Chancellor’s Club, and supporters of the Lied Center.She married Francis Mark Winterburg on Nov. 12, 1944, in Topeka. He died in 2004.Survivors include a son, Roy Edward Winterburg, Batavia, Ill.; three daughters, Vashti Winterburg, Martha Winterburg Chapin and Marie Winterburg Mack, all of Lawrence; two sisters, Kathryn F. Offen, Lawrence, and Olga Offen Pearson, Fort Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and her close friend, Caroline Offen, Walnut Creek, Calif.The family will receive friends in the church parish hall following the services.
