Jackson Churchill Mitchell

A celebration of life for Jackson Churchill Mitchell, 57, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship in Lawrence. Inurnment will be in Wellington at a later date.Mr. Mitchell died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at his home after a short battle with cancer.He was born June 15, 1950, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Jack Churchill and Jeanne Kincheloe Mitchell. He attended Lawrence High School and graduated from Wellington High School in 1969. He received a degree in news editorial from Kansas University in 1973.Mr. Mitchell worked in the newspaper industry for 25 years. He was a publisher and editor of the Newkirk Herald Journal and later the Wellington Daily News. He was co-owner of Sumner Cable TV.He also managed real estate and finance, started a ServiceMaster Clean franchise and worked in commercial print modeling and acting. He was a member of many boards and organizations.Mr. Mitchell married Julie Anne Motley in 1975 in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his father and stepmother, Jack C. and Peggy Mitchell, Sun City, Ariz.; a daughter, Juliann Drumm Mitchell, Columbus, Ohio; and two sons, Jack C. II, and Jordan M., both of Lawrence; and a brother, Judson K., Wellington.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Special Olympics, Attn: John, 1436 S.W.
