Sheriff’s office investigating 2 car thefts, several reports of items taken from vehicles near Eudora

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two car thefts and a series of thefts of items left in cars in the Eudora area, an official with the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Since Feb. 15, a Jeep Wrangler and a Toyota passenger car have been stolen in the Eudora Township area, and there have been 11 reported cases of unlocked cars that have had items stolen from or have been searched through, according to an email from sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. Kristen Channel. Channel said both of the vehicles that were stolen had been left unlocked with the keys inside, and that they have both been recovered.

Many of the thefts happened outside of Eudora city limits, and they all reportedly happened at night, Channel said.

“We want to remind people to remove valuables from their vehicles, including keys, and lock their vehicles,” Channel said. “We also want people to immediately report any suspicious activity or anything that appears to be unusual.”

Further information was not available Friday evening.
