The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday arrested a 45-year-old Lawrence man who serves as an officer with the Lawrence Police Department.

Officer Sutagee Anglin was arrested about 11 p.m. at his home on suspicion of domestic battery, according to arrest records.

Anglin was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery during his first court appearance Monday in Douglas County District Court. His bond was set at $500.

As part of the bond, Anglin is barred from returning to his home, except for one time with a police escort to retrieve his belongings. Additionally, he is barred from contacting the other residents of the home.

Anglin said during the hearing that he planned to hire his own attorney. He is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. Aug. 29.

Sgt. Amy Rhoads, a spokeswoman for the Lawrence Police Department, said only that the department was aware of an incident involving one of its officers. Rhoads said that generally officers were placed on administrative leave when under investigation by another agency.

Rhoads declined to provide any additional information about the incident or Anglin’s status.
