A woman was taken to an area hospital Wednesday afternoon after an accident near the University of Kansas campus that resulted from a medical emergency, police said Wednesday evening.

Sgt. Laurie Powell, of the Lawrence Police Department, said the woman began experiencing a medical problem while driving westbound on 19th Street near Barker Avenue. Powell said the woman’s SUV continued westbound until running into the rear of a UPS truck at about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of 19th and Missouri streets.

The woman had minor injuries from the accident and was taken by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Hospital, Powell said. The UPS driver was uninjured and later drove away in his truck.

Powell said she didn’t any additional details about the accident, including the names of the drivers involved.

West 19th Street was closed for a short period of time near the accident site.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the direction the woman was driving. She was headed west on 19th Street.
