City of Lawrence utility bill

The city will be temporarily estimating water bills for some Lawrence residents because of extreme winter weather conditions.

Because of conditions last week and those anticipated for this week, most of the water meters for utility customers in eastern and northern Lawrence will not be read and bills will have to be estimated, according to a news release from the city. Specifically, most of the water meters east of Iowa Street were not read last week, and most of the water meters north of Sixth Street will not be read this week.

If the meter reading is estimated, an “E” will appear on customers’ utility bills under the “EST” column. City utility officials have previously told the Journal-World that when bills must be estimated, they will later be adjusted up or down so that customers ultimately pay for the actual consumption.

If customers have questions about their utility bills, they can call 785-832-7878.
