Letter to the editor: No new stadium

To the editor:

Tom Keegan has really nailed it in his column on May 4 questioning the priorities of KU spending $300 million on stadium renovations.

For $300 million, a private suite could be built for each individual spectator, based on the average attendance for the past several years. This is as wrong-headed as it gets. Does anyone really think that an upgrade to Japanese self-flushing toilets is going to lure in tens of thousands more fans? Is it going to improve the bad game planning, ghastly play on the field and the usual litany of post-game reasons why the team lost by 40 points?

If this were a chariot race, Mr. Beaty’s reasoning would be to spend millions of dollars on the stable in the hopes of improving the on-field product.

KU is playing a weak schedule next year. In spite of this fact, they will not win more than three games. Putting lipstick on a pig does nothing to improve the quality of the bacon.

This is a troubled program.
