Letter to the editor: Embrace new ideas

To the editor:

I was pleased to see in a recent edition of the Journal-World that the City Commission and planning department are considering changes to our zoning laws to permit small houses on small lots.

Not only should these new ideas be open to consideration, but other alternative and progressive ideas for residential uses should be looked at also, such as straw-bale houses or other unusual construction methods. Our zoning and code restrictions currently prohibit many forward-thinking ideas and prevent possibilities for innovative solutions for affordable housing.

Please, city planners, do some looking outside the box and see what might be there.
