Letter to the editor: Armed children

March 11, 2018

To the editor:

A recent headline reads: “Obama cheers on fearless students of Parkland.”

Fine and dandy, but what about the children in countries that use child soldiers?

In 2009, not long after Obama became president, he waived provisions in the Child Soldiers Prevention Act that allowed for U.S. aid to continue for countries that were known to use child soldiers. Countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, South Sudan and Rwanda. The waiver was done in the ever ubiquitous and often unsubstantiated interest of national security.

Today the irony in his efforts to be a part of domestic policy change and what he carried out as president is tragic at best. What is significant between both domestic and global firearm proliferation policy, one might ask? The answer is a child’s life and all children should be protected. If we truly care about the lives of children and if the U.S. has a policy domestic or otherwise contributing to their deaths, there can be no exceptions, even in the name of national security.

When we see President Obama advocating for sensible gun laws let’s not forget the acts the U.S. committed under his command in its role to fund the actual placement of weapons of war in the hands of children. President Obama needs to answer for his role in arming children and measure that against his credibility when we hear him speak today.

The reign of error is ended in January 2017. The former resident of 1600 Penn. Ave. is irrelevant now.

As a current activist with influence he's pretty relevant.

Far from it, the reign has progressively worse since then.

Au contraire, faire pipi. Wait until the Fast & Furious documents are released. Then we'll see.

Josh, I applaud your Letter to the Editor. Agreed 100%.

You have to understand that you are talking about the first President of the United States of America that had the sole intention of slowly abandoning and destroying the entire culture of our great Country behind everyone's back with the help of our Leftist Media that so helped him.

Thank God for our now President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump!

Trump and Tillerson have granted the same waiver.

The letter writer fails to mention that, and fails to mention why these waivers were given. These groups were fighting Al Queda. I can't stand it either, but why would we want to emulate war torn countries by arming our children? Our country is just becoming more and more warlike. It's time to put a stop to it. Some may admire the photos of Afghan men going out and manly shooting their big guns in the air in celebration, but anyone who knows anything, knows that those bullets probably have killed innocents. Is this the world we want to live in? We have already had people die during holidays, because people get their jollies by shooting their guns. I think.we need to answer the question to why some in our country have so little regard for human life.

So, does this letter writer want to arm our children?

I didn't fail to mention why. "The waiver was done in the ever ubiquitous and often unsubstantiated interest of national security. "

How has arming the enemy of our enemy worked out in the past?

Our country has been a War waging machine since its inception.

No I don't want to arm any children. The past administration and the present do a good job of that already. What's interesting is the juxtaposition between what we tolerate as an act of foreign policy vs. what we are trying to fix domestically.

WE don't need to own assault weapons, military syle assault weapons, weapons that can accept magazines or SWAT team style weapons. The second amendment did not approve these weapons.

Politicians will say anything to shut americans up about guns when in reality are only waiting for this massive teen slaughter situation to run out of steam.

Nothing will change.

This is why the loud voices for replacing all laws with a few new regulations need to stay active and loud.

Assault weapons must be taken off the retail market, the black market and not allowed in gun shows. Then make it a felony to own or sell one!!!!

Military and law enforcement weapons when retired MUST be melted down and perhaps brought back as picinic tables.

Arming teachers is shallow thinking. Security officers are acceptable HOWEVER they cannot stop an action if they don't when a shooting is going to take place or where it will take place

Law enforcement KNOWS damn well assault weapons and open carry places them and all of us in harms way to a greater extreme than ever before.
