After losing by three points in the Class 6A state championship game last season, Lawrence High’s boys basketball team will receive a rematch in the first round of state tournament against Blue Valley Northwest.

The Lions (13-9) were seeded eighth in the boys bracket and will face top-seeded BV Northwest (18-4) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Wichita State’s Koch Arena.

Free State’s boys basketball team (17-5) is seeded second and will open against Wichita South (13-9) at 3 p.m. Thursday. The Firebirds placed third at state last year.

Among area teams, Baldwin’s girls basketball team (21-1) is the No. 1 seed in 4A-II will face Frontenac (9-13) in the first round at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Emporia’s White Auditorium. In 3A, Perry-Lecompton’s boys basketball team (20-3) is seeded sixth and will play Cheney (21-2) at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchinson Sports Arena.
