Firefighters extinguish fire at Lawrence apartment complex clubhouse

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire Friday afternoon at the clubhouse of an apartment complex in southeastern Lawrence.

Firefighters were called around 2:24 p.m. to a reported fire at 2411 Louisiana St., Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division Chief Lyle Schwartz said.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the eaves of the complex’s clubhouse and leasing office, which is separated from nearby apartments, Schwartz said.

The fire was above a utility room and in the attic area of the building, and firefighters had it under control by 2:47 p.m., Schwartz said.

Everyone in the building at the time of the fire was able to safely evacuate, Schwartz said, and no residents or firefighters were injured.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage, but it did not appear that the building was a total loss, Schwartz said.
