Free State receiver Keenan Garber looks to fake an Olathe South defender after a catch during the second quarter on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at Olathe District Activity Center.

Free State’s Keenan Garber won’t have to worry about his collegiate plans during his senior season.

Garber, a 5-foot-11 defensive back, announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he plans to play football at Kansas State University at the collegiate level.

“It wasn’t necessary a difficult choice, but a choice I wanted to be sure about,” Garber said. “They have always been my No. 1 school since this process began.”

Garber, a three-star prospect in the Class of 2019 by Rivals, spent the previous weekend in Manhattan for a football camp. The Wildcats were the first to show interest in Garber, though he garnered plenty of attention over the last month.

On May 10, Garber received offers from both K-State and Kansas. The Sunflower State rivals were the only power five programs to offer Garber. However, he also netted offers from Wyoming, North Dakota State, Indiana State, Illinois State and Tulane.

“The recruiting process has been very busy the last couple months,” Garber said. “I picked K-State because they are the team that fits me best, and I am right around the corner from my family and the people I grew up with.”

Garber played on both sides for the Firebirds, hauling in six scores as a receiver. Garber was named to the honorable mention team in Class 6A for his defensive play, while notching second team honors in the Sunflower League on offense.

“I am very ready to get to work with my teammates and coaches this season,” Garber said. “It’s a great feeling to have one more opportunity to go get what we are working towards at Free State.”
