KSHSAA releases latest classifications

The Kansas High School Activities Association released its classification list for football and other sports on Tuesday, and there was no change for area schools.

In the football classification, which is based on enrollment from grades 9-11, Baldwin tied with Topeka Hayden for the smallest enrollment in Class 4A. Based on a tiebreaker of the largest enrollment in the previous KSHSAA counts, Hayden was moved to 3A and the Bulldogs will remain in 4A.

For football in Class 6A, Kansas City Harmon will replace Wichita Northwest in the 2018 season, which will likely move Lawrence High to the West bracket for postseason play. Free State is already in the West bracket, which groups it against the biggest schools from Topeka, Wichita, Garden City and Dodge City, among other cities.
