Gary Woodland tied for sixth heading into second round of Tour Championship

Gary Woodland fired a 3-under 67 Thursday in the first round of the Players Championship, the final tournament of the FedEx Cup playoffs, played at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Woodland enters the second round in a five-way tie for sixth in the 30-man field, three strokes behind leader Kyle Stanley and one stroke behind four players tied for second.

Woodland carded 15 pars and three birdies and averaged 317 yards on his drives.

Woodland tees off today at 12:40 p.m. and is paired with Jon Rahm.

The Golf Channel will air today’s round from noon to 5 p.m.
