FSHS qualifies 3 golfers for state; LHS sending Wallen

Free State qualified three golfers for the Class 6A girls golf state tournament Monday at Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka.

Senior Tori Hoopingarner, sophomore Kate Lawrence and sophomore Kennedy Birk made the cut for state as the top-five individuals that weren’t on state-qualifying teams. Lawrence High junior Olivia Wallen also qualified for state as an individual.

Hoopingarner took 14th place with a 101, while Lawrence carded a 110 for 19th place and Birk placed 21st with a 116. Wallen finished 19th, shooting a 112.

Washburn Rural, Manhattan and Derby took the top three spots in the team standings, respectively, qualifying for state.

The 6A state tournament will begin Monday at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City.
