The Lawrence Douglas-County Health Department on Thursday will offer a walk-in dental fluoride clinic for kids ages 6 months to 18 years who are uninsured or on KanCare.

Fluoride varnish is painted on teeth to help make the enamel stronger and more resistant to decay, according to the health department. Studies show it is most effective when applied at least three times a year, according to LDCHD.

The department will provide free fluoride treatments from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at 200 Maine St. No appointments are necessary, but a parent or guardian must be present to sign a consent form and provide the child’s medical card information.
