Local birdwatchers wanted to help with worldwide bird count

The Jayhawk Audubon Society is inviting Douglas County birdwatchers to join a four-day worldwide effort to gauge how birds are faring.

The Audubon Society will have its Great Back-Yard Bird Count 2017 from Friday through Monday. Novice and experienced birdwatchers are asked to spend at least 15 minutes outside counting birds and then make an online account of their observations. Birdwatchers can make as many entries as they want during the four-day count and can make observations from backyards or any bird-friendly location.

Instructions on how to enter bird counts online can be found at BirdCount.org. Apps are also available to download at the site that can aid in identifying bird species.
