Motorcyclist suffers life-threatening injuries after crash southeast of Clinton Lake

A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Monday night after a single-vehicle accident, deputies say.

Around 9:50 p.m., Richard Romstedt, 31, was southbound in the 1000 block of E. 1000 road when he missed the curve as the road intersects with N. 1000 Road, said Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kristen Dymacek.

The curve is southeast of Clinton Lake.

Romstedt was flipped off his motorcycle as the vehicle left the road and entered a ditch, Dymacek said.

Romstedt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Dymacek said.

Suffering life-threatening injuries, Romstedt was driven by an ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Additional information was not immediately available.
