Minneapolis ? Kansas junior Pitsinee “Lizzie” Winyarat shot rounds of 5-over 77 and 3-under 69 and was tied for eighth place Monday in the Minnesota Invitational at The Minikahda Club.

Winyarat was at 2-over 146.

“Lizzie hit it very, very well in the second round,” KU coach Erin O’Neil said. “She did everything well. She was thinking well and got confident in herself. That made a big difference.”

The Jayhawks were tied for 10th place with Kansas State in the team standings of the 11-team tournament.

Junior Kallie Gonzales topped her first round score of 77 with a 74 in the second round. She stands in a tie for 25th place with a 7-over 151. Sophomore Ariadna Fonseca Diaz shot 77 and 74 to tie for 41st.

KU freshmen Annika Cedo and Yi-Tsen Chou played in their first collegiate tournament. Cedo shot 83 and Chou 88 in the first round, and Cedo shot 75 and Chou 78 in the second.

“It is a course where you have to get off the tee well and put yourself in a good position going into the green,” O’Neal said. “We did a better job with that in the second 18,” O’Neil said. “We learned a lot in that first round.”

Texas leads the field overall with a 14-over, 590, one stroke ahead of Louisville and Purdue.

“I hope we go out and continue to take what we learned, especially in the second round,” O’Neil said. “(We) need to build off that momentum of putting ourselves in a good position off the tee and being confident and committed to our plan. If we can shoot the way we did (in the second round) we should move up some more.”

The tournament will conclude today.
