Lawrence Police Department sets date for DUI saturation patrol

The Lawrence Police Department said it will increase patrols this weekend checking specifically for impaired drivers.

Between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday officers will conduct a DUI saturation patrol, the department said.

This patrol is the fifth of its kind this year. The department said it plans for a total of seven patrols in all for the year.

Additional officers, specifically assigned to the patrol, will be on the lookout for motorists showing signs of impaired driving and other traffic violations.

Funding for the extra officers on patrol is provided by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Officers will perform field sobriety tests on motorists who are stopped during the patrol, and they will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug consumption, the department’s news release said.

The police department does not disclose the location of the patrols.
