The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a tornado watch for Douglas County lasting until midnight Thursday. The watch was extended to the Lawrence area just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.

A powerful storm system that has brought a line of tornadoes across western and central Kansas will be moving through the area. Tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds are possible, the NWS said.
